ok, i'll admit it. i'm a little bit in love. 6 months ago

I saw Leonard Cohen live last night. It was…. Well, it was exactly as epic as you’d expect Leonard Cohen live to be: extremely.
To paraphrase: “I’ve gotten to an age where people have started asking my opinion; unfortunately, I’ve now developed an acute disinterest in my own opinions. Now… I don’t know how much time you spend in hotels, but we spend a lot of time in them, and I’ve noticed that hotel bathrooms now have little round mirrors in them that magnify your face. Sometimes they have little circles of bright fluorescent lights around them, to increase the illumination. If you’re above the age of twelve: don’t look into that mirror. That’s my advice to you.”
“I was last here in Boston fifteen, sixteen years ago. I was just a young man of sixty then, full of crazy ideas.”
The concert was almost four hours long, and worth every penny of the admittedly steep cover charge. And now I have a healthy role model!

...because Leonard Cohen is 74 years old now. I have to hand it to my parents for raising me in an environment where music always played in the background. Leonard Cohen especially. At a young age I could not grasp that his lyrics were not innocent. He is a man who went through the ringer and children can’t (or should not be able) to grasp his lyrics completely. But he was always beautiful to me. His songs are like prayers. Celebrity is not something I care to acknowledge, but this man inspired me, so his is worth being put on a pedestal. Inspiration is my cocaine. And who can deny that Leonard Cohen is the man.

I would only blink 3 years ago

In high school I checked Flowers For Hitler out of the tiny school library so many times in a row that they forced me to choose something else. Then I went to university in Montreal hoping for 4 years to glimpse him, but never did. In fact, I have no idea what I would say to him if I met him and I would likely only blink, but it would be nice to meet him, nonetheless.

I have loved this man forever and somehow feel that it is my destiny to meet him at some point, although I probably could not come up with a single inteligent thought while in his company. I would love to just listen to him talk, sing whatever.
