Lately I’ve been reading several articles on getting fit on 10mins a day. So, I figure, why not try it? Maybe it’s not the activity that I keep resisting – maybe it’s the length of the activity. I will try it through the entire month of January. I don’t track my weight or anything, but I will be watching how I feel, and how motivated I am to keep this up, what time of day works best… Hey, 10 minutes is better than nothing, right?
I am also happy to say that I have continued practicing yoga – I really enjoy it, and I feel “off” when I haven’t done it for a while. I’ve been doing it at home, which is easier than trotting off to the gym (especially in this weather). I even bought a sitting block, which I love more than I ever thought I would – I even sit on it while watching tv!
Although the yoga has been great, I prefer hatha/meditation-type yoga, which is great for stretching, toning, and relaxing, but I need more of a cardio element. So, we’ll see what happens.

I dont know how it happened, but I got in about an hour of good exercise EVERY NIGHT THIS WEEK – happily – without struggle! It felt really good.
Monday I went for a very long power walk. Tuesday, yoga – it was actually a more challenging class than usual – more like power yoga, I think. Wed and Thursday, I made it to the gym for cardio and weights! and tonight, fri, I went on a short power walk.
How impressed am I?! I suddenly feel like I have the exercise thing under way. I’m actually looking forward to my next visit to the gym, which is yoga, tomorrow morning! And, tomorrow afternoon, I will be walking the seawall with a friend. We’re planning a big hike for our next outing.
This is seriously something of a miracle. I’ve been trying to pinpoint the moment where motivation hit. It could be difficult to keep this up, so knowing where it came from could help.

Ok, so I know I have to find an enjoyable form of exercise. But, I also need to find a good time to enjoy it.
I’m starting to think mornings may be key. The thing about morning is that I tend to not be thinking straight. So, if I know I have to get up to go somewhere, I’ll just get up, I won’t have the energy to think of a million reasons why I shouldn’t. It’s just too early. I’m on autopilot. On the other hand, in the evening, I can always think of a million excuses – I’ve had such a long day… I have to clean…. I have to call so and so… yada yada…
Originally for this goal I was just gonna do something big and fun on weekends, but that’s simply not enough.
Although, I will say that I like to go on walks in the evening. Actually, I think I will go on one right now!

So – it rained last weekend, which kinda put a damper on my hiking plans. I decided instead to hit the yoga mat. I went to the hatha class at my gym this evening, and had to right about it asap. I really loved it, I can still feel the energy body, in my spine, from having stretched out some seriously twisted knots.
Yoga is indeed an enjoyable form of exercise. However, I am not stopping this goal here. I know that in order to keep active, I need several activities that I enjoy. Otherwise I will get bored.
I still hope to go hiking, but if I have to write up another raincheck, then I think I will try swimming – gutsy? i think so – more on that later.

I think this will be my first enjoyable form of exercise. I love hiking because I love to be in the great outdoors. There is just nothing better. Further, there are a ton of great trails around here. So, I’ll tackle a trail this weekend (please don’t rain, please don’t rain).
By the way, for this goal, I plan to try a new form of exercise every weekend. The idea is that, eventually (hopefully!), something will stick.
