It was an absolutely fantastic day! 9 months ago

So worth it! :)

Surely this is beyond the call of duty? 12 months ago

I cleaned up my sister’s vomit on her hen weekend. I did accidentally let her fall into the bath… but surely this is enough to gain me the mantle of Best Bridesmaid?!!

Oh dear... 17 months ago

I’m a terrible bridesmaid. I actually argued with my sister (the bride) the other day because she insists I wear shoes I can’t walk in. Seriously, she’ll be the first to complain when I fall over, tread on her dress and tear it, but it won’t help when it happens on the big day…

Maybe there’s a touch of jealousy because my little sis is getting married before me, but I don’t think that’s it. I think it’s just that she’s slowly turning into bridezilla…

One bit done! 18 months ago

Yay, hen weekend all sorted, and no tears or tantrums from the bride, so I must be being suitably supportive!

Not doing well so far! 18 months ago

I have to admit I’m being a pretty crappy bridesmaid. It started with the dress. Actually don’t get me started on the dress. It didn’t help that me and my cousin (the other bridesmaid) were standing side by side in front of the mirror in the changing room and she’s a size 8 and I’m a size 12. Ashamed to say I did sulk, not least because I had to pay £110 for it!

Anyway, I am going to TRY not to whinge about the hen night because my sister might actually kill me if I don’t fall into line soon!

No, really 3 years ago

I’ll have to write more about this later. But I really was a bridesmaid. On paper I was a “bride’s attendant,” and I wore a tuxedo like the grooms. But the bride called me a bridesmaid. Which makes it more of a fun story to tell.

It was stressful 3 years ago

For me, being a good bridesmaid entailed:

  • Going for four dress fittings and not complaining (at least to my sister) that the dress still didn’t fit properly.
  • Staying at the church after the ceremony to load all the gifts that people brought to the church (what kind of moron brings their gift to the church anyway?) in my car, thereby missing a good portion of the toasts and such at the start of the reception.
  • Holding my tongue and not punching the total bitch who was part of the groom’s party and apparently miffed that she wasn’t A) the bride or B) the maid of honor. She was way WAY too touchy feely with my brother-in-law and treated everyone in my family like crap. Oh, and she tried to set it up so she was the one signing as a witness on the marriage license instead of me. I happened to be walking by at the right moment and foiled her plan.

I would never have endured all that crap for anyone but my sister, but I love her and my brother-in-law and I was thrilled to participate in their wedding.

So worth it! 3 years ago

I guess the bride should probably rate me as a bridesmaid, but I desperately hope I was a good bridesmaid.

Bridesmaid Extraordinaire was quite a physically taxing role, staying up to 2-3am then starting again at 8am three nights in a row. But that was honestly my only complaint. My best friend (aka “Bride”) has always been such a sweetheart, and I know she was so happy just to be getting married to the man she loves, so really I could have been a bad bridesmaid and I don’t think she would have minded. Plus I now know how to do calligraphy. Crooked calligraphy, but still…

Well, I hope I was anyways 3 years ago

Yep, two of my best friends, (two of my own bridesmaids:) are now happily married. I hope I did a good job. Haven’t heard any complaints! (lol)

Good bridesmaid, bad bridesmaid 3 years ago

As a good bridesmaid, I went into every formal shop in my uber-mall looking for a sensible black dress, knee length. No luck. So I ordered three candidates at nordstom.com. (Why can’t they carry more stock in their stores?!)

As a bad bridesmaid, it has now been a week and I have yet to return the call of fellow bridesmaid with whom I am planning the bridal shower and bachelorette party. I feel like I need to come up with better ideas/suggestions, or some ideas/suggestions, before calling…but I bet she’s feeling pretty neglected right about now.
