oboelicious_INFJ#1 Better endurance and less pain

This is a pretty basic purpose but I’m going to address it because it’s so important.
I’ve heard from several sources that musicians are essentially athletes but they are using different muscles.
In sports an ideal warm up is slow and deliberate and the purpose is to prepare the body for the work out and prevent injury. Why not apply this principle to music?

I have a shoulder condition so it might be a good idea to actually have a pre-music warm up before my warm up where I do my stretches. Using heat before a warm up can also be a great idea. On the physical realm of things, I should also pay attention to my posture and how much movement is happening in my technical exercises, and I should use my warm up to make sure I’m not tensing up or lifting my fingers too high. It’s also a good idea to practice in intervals with short stretching breaks. Practicing in front of a mirror is also an excellent idle, and a warm up would be a great time to monitor myself. I’d like the idea of writing these things into my warm up

A common issue with oboists is mouth pain when playing for long hours. I’ve noticed some jaw pain myself and I know long tones, relaxation, practicing in intervals and a good warm up can help this. There was a period where I was really good about my long tones, and i had better endurance then. I’d like to see what I can do to monitor any tension and write a warm up that will help increase my endurance. I can push myself to play in rehearsals for 5 hours a day or more if I have to, but I’d like those 5 hours to be hours of high quality playing and not something where I’m straining after 3 hours. 3 years ago

oboelicious_INFJThe big picture of this goal

I’m going to list what i want out of a warm up routine in general and list specifically what I want. Then I’m going to use all these qualities as a basis for planning specific exercises for my routine. 3 years ago
