I had been wanting to make the switch to Linux for a while now, but was too scared to leave Windows and venture into the unknown. On Sunday, however, I finally took the plunge and had my brother install Ubuntu for me on my computer. All I can say is that it is AMAZING and I will never go back to Windows again. I know I have a lot to learn with Linux and it’ll be a bit confusing at first adjusting to it, but so far it has been exciting, actually. I’m definitely happy I finally took the plunge.

How to use linux"Installing Ubuntu breathed new life into my PC."
How I did it: I still need Windows for some applications but am looking into Wine or Virtualbox to remedy having to dual boot. Every time I boot into windows now I cringe at how long it takes, how slow everything is, and how dirty I feel inside :) Lessons & tips: Search google :) Resources: http://google.com |

How I did it: Last week I had some time to kill. Pored over some net articles and pages I'd bookmarked years ago. Wubi helped a lot. Read how I did it…

I don’t like where Windows is going with Vista. I’m tired of the vulnerabilities and proprietary stuff. I want more transparency and CONTROL.

Stuff you Bill Gates. Tux is right. Windows sucks.
It is obviously lightyears better than Windows in every way! But as far as interface and just-working-ness is concerned, Leopard is better.
So I ended up purchasing a new laptop. Instead of purchasing a new hard drive for my old laptop (Toshiba Satellite S205-2415) I purchased an HP Pavilion dv9000t.
I do a lot of C#/.NET software development, so I couldn’t completely remove Microsoft Windows out of my life. That will be my next goal. I ended up partitioning the 80 GB drive that came with the new laptop in an 60/20 split (60 for windows/16 for linux/4 for linux swap).
I installed Ubuntu Linux (http://www.ubuntu.com/).
Here’s to a new year and a complete conversion from Windows to Linux.
i use linux everyday as a desktop and for my file server. ubuntu is my flavor of choice.
I will try to install linux on my IBM laptop this weekend. I would like to keep the windows installation files which comes with this laptop within a hidden partition. My friend installed linux on his IBM but afterwards he can’t switch back to windows anymore. I would like to research on this more.
Anyway I would like to be a linux user.
After getting sick of Windows being bloated and slow, and having meddled with Linux previously, I finally backed up, reformatted and installed Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn) on my laptop. It went fairly well, although I still have XP dual-booting, for Visual Studio, mainly. But Linux is definitely my primary OS, and I love it. Beryl is highly recommended, it makes things so much easier and smoother to organize and just use your PC…and it just looks freaking cool.
Highly recommended, I have (and continue to) chronicle my experiences in my (sadly lacking) blog.
