If you really like swords then this is the best choise.
Katanas have all three elements of swords:
-Piercing
-Slicing
-Weight behind attack
And the tradition behind these blades is great too.
i really want to learn about fighting witha katana i really love swords
I think that this would be an awesome skill to practice :) It would make a cool hobby also!
..though I’ve always wanted one, I didn’t buy one. Now I guess
I should at least learn the basic stances and stuff.
there are a few sites i know of that could help those who cant get any training to atleast get the idea of how to hold a katana and the stances. training in a true kendo, shinkendo or ninjutsu school is essential to truly understanding and being able to carry out these techniques, along with caring for the sword and having dicipline towards your attitude with it.
the first site i have is from a ninjutsu school that i have heared of and looked up myself. the sword grip is shown in two ways.

the next site i have for you is from the kukishin ryu kenjutsu which by the way i have learned different stances but these are fine for the graphic views and brief descriptions. this site also has links to other kenjutsu topics from the kukishin ryu.
yet i should warn that if you do not train under their instructors, do not claim that you use their style for it is an offence to say such things if you have not actually learned from their personal instruction. this rule applies to any ryu of martial art.

these may help your form in holding and standing with a katana, wakizashi or tanto if that is included in these sites, no i didnt check to see if they had tanto techniques.
if you actually get a katana that is OR ISNT sharp it is a weapon and can still cut heads off. care for these swords are essential unless you want a rusty blade that is falling apart on you after a year mabe less of use, these swords rust and they rust fast if you do not maintain them for that ill let you research or if you know good for you^^.
After all, a real katana can really remove body parts you’d prefer not to…
