Sunoe is joining 43 things and thinking about some life goals
I studied French in middle school and part of high school, Spanish for a quarter in college, and then took a year of Italian. I mimic languages naturally (at least the Romance languages) but can’t speak quickly or understand when others speak quickly.
And, I can’t decide which language to learn. Spanish would make sense, as it would be useful in many everyday situations. But Hebrew or some other language would be interesting and useful as well, and part of me doesn’t want to re-learn or start studying a language I’ve already studied.
So which languages would be good to try?
I took four years of french in high school…I want to remember it all over again. Because I want to move to France…I’ve had it with this country.
I speak only English fluently. After living in Finland for a year, I speak Finnish almost conversationally; I speak Italian conversationally, and French well enough to survive. But I have yet to become fluent in a foreign language. If I spend next year doing research in Sweden, I’ll have another chance to remedy this.
Le tre semestre e ora fine. Adesso, e ora per le quattro semestre, wahoo!
This I’ve been accomplishing quite a long time ago and I consider myself to be fluent in English. Learning a new language is something I recommend to people; even though it might be useless to know a language that is spoken by only a few million people, it will still make a whole lot of new connections in our brain, also reducing the probability for Alzheimer’s.
Third Semester Italian—I’m getting there! I should probably listen to my tapes and learning CDs more though…I’m going to put them on my ipod so I can listen on my walk to class in the morning…
Knowledge of foreign languages helped me to meet many wonderful people…got many new friends and also a boyfriend whom I wouldn’t meet if I wouldn’t discover how small our Earth can really be.
If I had my way, I would be able to speak every language possible..but obviously that isn’t possible, so instead I would love to be fluent in either French, Italian or Spanish/Portuguese. French because I’ve been learning it on and off since I was about ooo 8 or so? Italian because I’ve always wanted to go to Italy and been fascinated by the country. Spanish or Portuguese because I want to travel around South America and it would be a whole lot easier if I could speak those languages! :)
