finish reading "Moby Dick"

I’m thankful to know that there are other people out there who are having difficult with this literary masterpiece. My qualms with it are the poetic writing and the vocabulary. I consider myself intelligent, however, it is much beyond me to know what a whaler may know.

I’m hoping to finish reading this novel by the end of the year. It would be very sad indeed if I couldn’t, as I have a collector’s edition sitting on my shelf trying to persuade me to peruse it.

Such a beautiful, difficult book.

Finally got it and started. Got a used edition with lots of loving highlights and side notes explaining(very helpful!) I didn’t realize I would like it this much.Captain Ahab is such a freak, I love it!

Wow, I never imagined other people in the world would have this as a goal, too, but they do. So far, I have looked at 3 different editions, and my husband bought me a copy, but the one I got from the library was the best because it had tons of endnotes explaining things in the book – like did you realize the reason Ishnmael is so horrified by Queequeg’s ‘shawl’ is because it was actually a dried whale foreskin? (No play on the title intended.) But the copy I have now doesn’t have those good little notes, so is harder to stay with.

done. kaput. I’ll hold onto the book and maybe someday I will pick it up again and come to the end of it, but for now, I haven’t the want to nor the gumption to accomplish this goal~!

I’m never going to accomplish it anyway. I just can’t get into it. It’s way over written with archaic words and themes. Typical Melville style someone said. So, this one is marked done and unsuccessful!

I’ve not picked the book in over 5 months. I took it off the headboard of my bed. That is where most of my reading is done. I put it back in the book shelf in the bedroom. Perhaps this goal will entice me to actually finish Moby Dick one of these days…

I think I am going to scratch this goal as it seems an impossible one to reach! I have not picked “Moby Dick” up for the longest time! This is not like me not to finish a book when I begin it!

I really need to pick this book up again and read a few more chapters. Perhaps I will do that later today.

I read another 12 pages the day before yesterday. Slowly getting through it.

slowly. I have this book on my headboard so I can pick it up when I’ve nothing else to read. Last reading session was about a week ago…don’t remember exactly which day it was. I only read about seven pages.
Slowly it’s getting read.
