Car is knocking out her 43Things with great alacrity.

$40 a year (ha, i thought it was a month at first), but my bank (branch) doesn’t have them. I’d have to go further North or South.

so tempted to give the heirlooms back to my Grandparents and have them put them back in theirs.

    : -)

    What What??? 1 month ago

    I need a safety-deposit box? Why, yes. I do.

My grandparents saw fit to give me some heirlooms for X-mas last year and I really wish they would not have – given I live in an apartment and I am SOOOOOOOOO worried about this stuff.

I have renter’s ins, but a couple of things I really need to get appraised and get riders just for them BLAH BLAH BLAH. Safety-deposit box is much needed. Especially before my move in Jan. I’m scared things will be lost before then.

Well, I’ve checked with all the branches near my house and they don’t have boxes. I had no idea this was such a scant commodity!

So, I’ve decided to take the locked, fire-proof box where I currently keep my documents, wrap it in plastic (water-proof) and place it in my rented storage room. Maybe it’s not quite as safe, but it’s better than having them in my house.

I've got a safety deposit box, now I need to use it! 5 months ago

I am going to do some research and figure out what to put in my safety deposit box. I am not in the habit of using one so I’m not sure how useful it will be.

    My bank... 22 months ago

Doesn’t offer these. Classy eh? We have been thinking about switching banks and this might be the final straw.

This Saturday I had a day off and we went to the bank. We added my wife to the box so she can go in there anytime she needs to and I don’t have to be there. We put in the box some important papers as well as a hard drive with backups of our computer on it.

    Got it 2 years ago

I was thinking I could mark this done, but since it says “and use” I’m at a loss for now. I signed up and got the keys for a safety deposit box, but I haven’t put anyting in it yet. I got the smallest one they have which cost me $25 a year. Unfortunately the size that would accomidate a DVD is more expensive and there are none avaliable at the moment. I’m thinking of putting in a 20 gb laptop drive I have that contains all my data instead. I’ve also got some mortgage papers, etc that I want to put in there.

    what's important 2 years ago

Whenever there is someone on TV who has lost their house in a fire or a hurricane or some other disaster they always tell the reporter that the things they miss the most are the photos and the things they can’t replace. I always think it would be a good idea to keep things like that in a safety deposit box. That an d other things like the mortgage papers, or life insurance policies. I’m thinking I should burn a DVD from my computer backups and keep that there too. I don’t know if I would really have time to grab my external hard drive if there were a fire.

I can think of a bunch of reasons to get one…
    Either that or a safe.

to know that i have my important, never-get-rid-of papers safely all in one place other than in my house. definitely worth the $40/year.
