Well, I count this as done since I have already quit my job in a neighborhood with a good video store. The one near my house has few Spanish movies, all of which I have seen. I can take this up again in the US and will probably find a better variety. The downside is that my eyes will hone in on the subtitles, while here in Japan I can ignore them.

Last night I watched “Amantes.” Ummmmm it was interesting, but as the title implies, it was rather steamy, and not in the nicest way. I wouldn’t really recommend this one, especially if you aren’t in the mood to get depressed! Sigh…. I have yet to find a Spanish movie that is uplifting or that doesn’t contain sex. Maybe that should have been the goal?!

Last night I watched the Film “La Lengua de Las Mariposas.” It was very sweet but of course… I cried… Two thumbs up!

This week I watched “Belle Epoque” and “Abre tus “Ojos.” I hadn’t realized how many movies Penelope Cruz acted in until I found a large-ish selection of Spanish movies at the larger of the two video stores where I am a member. I don’t mind, though. She’s adorable! It’s hard to choose by the cover (I can’t read the Japanese description!) so I think I’ll just choose them in the order they are shelved.

I had seen “Belle Epoque” in Spain about ten years ago, and I still enjoy it. One of my favorite Spanish actresses is Adriana Gil.

It was interesting to see “Abre tus Ojos,” because I had already seen “Vanilla Sky.” The remake was really close to the original—Tom Cruise even resembles the Spanish actor who portrayed the same role (creo yo, eh)! And of course, with Penelope Cruz in the same role as Sofia, it felt really familiar.

I watched an old Penelope Cruz movie called Brujas. Rather depressing, although I was reminded of some kind of bad words that I had forgotten.

Need to keep up my Spanish and hopefully learn more expressions.
