A Staggering Rat of Heartbreaking Something or Other "I musta made a wrong toin at Al-buh-KOY-kee"
Fifty Words, a veritable smorgasbord for Rat. Some words trigger more of a synaesthetic response than others, but I’ll go with my first reactions. Ready, Rat? Ready!
abandon = a milk chocolate-covered wafer biscuit, like a Bandit
accepted = wilted lettuce in a Miracle Whip dressing, with an undertone of mint
allowed = nothing… it’s shaped like a megaphone though
banter = a cross between a bo-bo ball and baked beans and a chocolate wafer and an elastic
brilliant = concentrated citrus, sweet and tangy
costly = soggy raisin bran and a little custard
critical = Alpha-Bits, no milk (one of the words I chose for a synaesthetic self portrait)
deigned = a cake donut rolled in cinnamon sugar
denied = reheated broken-up elbow macaroni in tomato sauce
encore = a cross between a carrot and an apple and some weak caramel sauce
explicit = nothing
failure = a grey raw or live grey fish, with fins
faultline = fault: a saltine, and line = a yellowish sweetish lemon paste
favorite = hot maple syrup on a crispy waffle
forbidden = melting supermarket butterscotch ice-cream mixed with bbq potato chips
free = soft or stirred-up pure white vanilla ice cream
frustrate = piece of built-up ice from a freezer,the kind you defrost, with some weak orange and raspberry flavour
glee = a soft roll with a lot of butter and some maple syrup on top
hands = skin and lotion (scent, not taste)
head = eggnog and apple
heart = heart, like a chicken heart, maybe a little cinnamon heart also – this one’s literal
hiatus = nothing much… a weak mixture of pineapple and salad flavours
impeachment = peach and Wrigley’s gum
impediment = nothing
implied = tinned pears
implicit = nothing
inflamed = nothing much, hard to describe, smell of a match but a viscous texture
inquired = a beigeish-grey chewy thing, hard to describe
inspired – something greenish and hairy, like a moustache
joy = sweet, pink, texture of soap and ice-cream cone, but chewier… like the inside of a kit-kat,no chocolate
marginal = sweet butter curls
mastery = instant mashed potatoes
mention = something savoury and reddish, hard to describe
merciless = part tinned apricot, part ear, part raisin in a raisin cookie
obliterate = nothing much,maybe a little olive mixed with mushroom
obstacle = an orange popsicle mixed with a potato
permitted = a hermit cookie
principal = threads of the core of a carrot with a yellow sweet hard barley sugar candy
principle = orang-y threads of the core of a carrot, no candy
quotidian = greyish-beige papery thing, no real flavour
rained = rain, maybe a little bit of wet candy cane, but not much
random = wafer with apple pie filling
recompense = nothing really
regret = the filling from a Fig Newton, the taste includes biting down on those tiny seeds
replied = tinned pears
required = hmmmm, something wet, greyish-beige
success = celery, sliced up, but stringy
symbol = nothing much
