When I was in the 4th grade, at zoo camp, I watched an IMAX film about the Galapagos. I swore then that I would go to these fascinating islands before I die. That was the first time that I felt in my bones that I needed to travel somewhere. Of course I have a whole list of destinations now, but the Galapagos started the list.

My whole family enjoyed it. Everyday we sailed to a different island and saw new animals close up. The birds and igunanas and sea lions wouldn’t even get off the path as we went through. Still processing it all, but it was a wonderful experience and if you get a chance, you should go! If you’re considering it and have questions, feel free to comment under here and I’ll get back to you…
My sister really, really wanted to go to the Galapagos, so she persuaded my parents and we’re all going over the holidays this year! It’ll be odd to spend Christmas in the tropics, but I’m sure all the turtles and birds and iguanas and hikes on fabulous little islands will more than make up for it…
I went in my 20’s, when I was single, on my own …. AMAZING!
But I still was unprepared for the incredible reality of the Galapagos – neither for the uninhibited wildness and the other- worldly beauty of the lands nor for how quickly and completely they pulled me under their spell. It was magical!
“If you let it, the Galapagos will grab you by the soul and will never let go.”
I would love to go back when my children are older and can appreciate it.
Tried to get someone to go with me years ago, no one was interested! Took some other great vacations. Now I have a one year old so won’t be traveling for quite some time, but will do this someday!
