Celebrate my 40th birthday in an extraordinary way this November~

I went to work and all the 6th graders (about 100) and 13 2nd graders sang to me this morning. I really felt it and I had many birthday wishes throughout the day! I went to the Secretary of State to renew my tags and my brother called to ask me if I wanted a puppy. I asked him what kind and he told me about a white and black Chihuahua, then texted me a picture. He reminded me of the dog from The Little Rascals. A couple of hours later, he called to tell me he was on the way. He came in and appeared to be very mild and adorable. Before the evening was over, he was zooming through the house running and bouncing around like a puppy. He’s beautiful! I’m thinking about naming him, Petey- maybe even Rascal. Time will tell~

I’d like to stick to my Plan A- I’m still waiting to hear from the show ;)

I am celebrating a great milestone this year… I’ll be turning 40 in mid-November! It would do my heart well to celebrate it sitting in the audience on your show. In fact, I’m imagining a few moments on stage with you and Maya Angelou- the three of us sharing poetry. This is something I’d love to share with my children as well as my students. Ever since I published my first book last fall, we have been enjoying the many styles of poetry. Another teacher at my school bought and shared my book with his 4th graders. I visited his class in order to talk about the book and they asked questions. Afterward, they shared poems they’d written. I was so impressed, I invited them to read their work to my 5th graders. Adding another layer to this exchange is the ultimate idea, don’t you think?

I bought a new purple dress this summer. As a matter of fact, I bought a new red dress too! I wonder which one I will wear?! A wise man told me to ask for what I want, well I’m asking ;) Oprah, can I celebrate my 40th birthday on your show?
