I’m not 100% sure, but I think that my porch once had three columns (one on each corner, and one in the middle) but it now has only two. In any case, I need to borrow a jack and get some support under there. A cosmetic fix can come later, but a simple beam will fix the drainage – not much is going into my lovely box gutters, and it’s all spilling over on to the porch floor.

to a newly constructed porch! It is almost like a new house! I almost feel like strutting down the street when i leave the house! Now I want to renovate other things too!

I don’t know what is keeping the inspector…maybe cos it is getting colder or maybe his cases are back logged from his holiday…anyhoo…i consider this complete!

I will take this off my list when the porch gets an A ok from the building inspector!

coming along nicely. I asked the guys to fix up other little odds and ends outside of the house too. Trimming around the house etc. It will cost more of course, but it is an investment and better spent on this than some other stuff like clothing! Can’t wait till it is done!

The workmen are banging away as I am banging away on my keyboard! Ahhh… I never thought that hammering could sound like music to my ears as much as this does now! I will be so glad when this goal is finally over and done with!

I hired a “handy man” to tear down the concrete proch and built a wooden one. What i have now is a broken dwon , half demolished porch with wooden planks over it. it has been like this for 4 months now. Why is that some ppl come and do part of a job then not show up? They keep delaying things. Worse is my mum knew the guy and he said he needed $2,700.00 for materials. Well, you know the story. He did not buy anything. He demolished the concrete with a sledgehammer by HAND! Not with a jackhammer! Now the foundation of the thing is there like a rusted skeleton. The city is involved now and we needan archictect’s drawing for plans to build a porch. The newest quote i get from someone else is $5,000.00. (The 1st guy said $4,700.00) Oh, the 1st guy broke his leg, fell off a ladder. We waited till now for him to finish the job. Now he says he doesn’t have money for the materials cos he spent it while in the hospital. And he won’t be able to finish the job and he doesn’t have the money to repay us back. Winter is coming, the city is on my ass and all i know is that this porch is going to cost me at least $7,700.00! No wonder we are so leery of construction people or handy men! A few bad seeds gives everyone a bad name. I am going to get another quote and get this thing going. The stress is a killer!
