Apply/get accepted to the Ship for World Youth (SWY) Internship

Ok – so I didn’t get in.
But I did find out something potentially disturbing about the selection process, and will from here on make it my mission to expose the selection committee. Or at least give them bad publicity for being unprofessional and disorganized and generally lacking transparency and bias. So, there. (But now, I’m glad I didn’t get accepted into this program… I would’ve had to wrestle with my conscience and should have turned it down on principle.)

There’s always a consolation prize, it seems, and morality plays into it huge.

3:47 p.m., to be precise, and they’ve bumped up their decision-making deadline to say that applicants will be notified of their status ”..by September 5th.”.... that’s fantastic. That’s…. right NOW.
My anxiety has died down, and I’m not sure what I’m feeling at the moment. Just waiting to exhale, waiting to find out if I’m accepted into the program, or not.

....Couriered yesterday, due to arrive in the SWY office by 5 p.m. this afternoon. I hear back by September 3rd….. if I was superstitious I’m sure I’d cross my fingers AND toes right about now, but instead I’m going to breaatthheeee and realize that I’m a perfect fit for this program. Hence, I should get accepted. And if not… I still have 4 years before I hit the cut-off age; I’ll try again in 2009!

Basically it’s really awesome and I really want to do it. I already have a kickass letter of reference from my old boss – Scientific Director and CEO extraordinaire, professor of pediatrics, and VP research. Impressive titles, no? ... I’m finalizing my application and sending it this week. (And then I’m crossing all my fingers and my toes even though I don’t believe in that kind of stuff…)
