I started to attend a Street Performer’s club back at the University of Arizona…. I learned to do a few techniques but haven’t kept up with it, and I’m definately not lighting myself on fire yet…. anyone know of any street performers clubs in Upstate NY?

How I did it: i took to spinning tennis balls inserted in a pair of old socks and learned to spin at home just following homeofpoi.com tutorials. it took me probably a full week to learn the basic weave. then i got my zips from a planetzips event in makati. i surprised a couple of instructors who probably thought i had no idea how to do it, because i didn't say anything before having them teach me some moves. that was both funny and awkward and totally… Read how I did it…

How I did it: watched some utube videos. borrowed friend's poi stuff. tried it. figured it out. i decided that it wasnt that cool and there are so many other things that i would rather be doing with my time. sorry but its not that intereting. and there's no wow to it. Read how I did it…
How I did it: I spent years learning from videos on the net, and people i met at festivals / events. I found it difficult to find good tutorials when i needed them, so i finally made my own to give back to the community that supported me.And yes it is me in the picture! Read how I did it…

How I did it: .....did a websearch and found that homeofpoi are wonderful. Just practised with homemade socks until the real ones arrived.Really love the strobe poi (battery powered) coz there's no danger of starting a bushfire at night!Never stop learning and having fun. Read how I did it…
How I did it: There is a fire arts club at my college that really helped me get involved with poi. First things first though: start wiht some super long tube socks, two balloons, and some rice. Fill the balloons with rice to the amount that they're a little stretched and fit in the palm of your hand. Then put a balloon in each sock and whip the crap out of it, until you've stretched the sock so that it's at least 2 feet long. No… Read how I did it…

for making practice poi are still sitting in my closet. But I am on the email list, so I still have a toe in the door…
I’ve been finding it difficult to learn. I’ve been using the videos of playpoi.com. They’ve been helping a lot. I was cruising right along until I got to the 6th video. Crossing poi while spinning them backwards, and doing a backwards 2 beat weave. This has been giving me soo much difficulty. I’ve been stuck on this for like a month. Every time it ends up hitting my leg.
I’ve been doing the tutorials on playpoi.com and finding them really great. I’ve done the first two weeks worth and its made me heaps more confident with my poi and I’ve learned hip reels, crossing same time, 2-beat weaves, the butterfly and the forward 3-beat weave.
I’m absolutely addicted and loving it.
Still not really confident enough to play with fire- but soon hopefully.
I need to buy myself some pants….
My brother got me fire poi for Christmas!
I’ve made a start on his goal.
So much fun!
So exciting!

Well I’m president of my class so I do a lot of hiring DJs for school dances and whatnot. We had this one DJ we really liked, and they did poi with glowsticks as a sort of light show at the school dances. We all loved it. But unfortunately this DJ moved away, and there are no other DJs that do this. I’ve always admired it, and maybe I can learn it before our next class event.
I’m going to ask for poi chains for christmas :]
Me and one of my friend really want to become fire twirlers but we can’t seem to find any lessons in edmonton, alberta. Can anyone help?

I wanted the kind of poi that have the trailing tails, but didn’t like what i was finding online. So I went to Walmart, picked up some cheap “George” brand stockings that were somewhat like tightly-knit-with-a-bit-of-sheer- fishnet stockings, tennis balls, dye, and that odd fuzzy knit yarn stuff. Put all of them together and you get sock poi with tails. The fuzzy knit yarn makes the tails beautiful (i should get different colors), but I’m concerned about knotting when the poi cross paths.
Fun stuff. Next, I have some cord that I’m dying, and I’ll wrap the tennis balls in cloth and make the type of poi on cords. =)

I’m learning that while practice is good, there is a point where you need to stop and take a break. I became very frustrated because somehow I was doing much worse than when I initially was practicing. Stopped. Next day, came back to them and did better than ever! Moves I could not do consistently became locked in stone. Very nice.
=)

“Are there any great online resources for instructional videos? I've tried chats, but usually you have to have x many posts and popularity rankings. Any advice?”
