    Shopping! 15 months ago

I went with my mom and sister shopping yesterday. On a note card I taped the wardrobe color palette that best suits me. On the other side I wrote down the pieces that I wanted to look for on that day. I was able to find a nicely fitted white button down shirt at Marshall’s. I also found a black skirt that kind of swirls around a little. It goes past the knee and sits at the waist. It also came with a nice large belt. These will be two great classic pieces. I also got a nice kind of trendier sweater, but at least it was in a good color for me! I purchased another short sleeved sweater, two pairs of black tights, and a pair of grey tights. I think I’m off to a decent start.

I bought a fantastic Kenneth Cole skirt @ The Rack last night. Its knee length, softly pleated, and black. Numero Uno classic piece!!

    Research. 16 months ago

Right now I’ve been doing a lot of research about what colors will suit me best and which cuts will work best for my figure. I really want to buy good quality clothing that will last me for years. With that said, I need to make sure this quality clothing is classic so that I can look good for years to come without looking outdated. I’m just tired of trends. Not all trends even look good on everyone. Blech.

This decision has come forth from me wanting to look my best. I recognize that looks aren’t everything in life, but I have also found that people, specifically strangers, treat me with more respect when I am well put together. I also feel more confident when I feel that I am looking my best and I know that contributes to it as well.

I am inspired by The Sartorialist who doesn’t just recognize people that are tripped out on the best designer gear. It’s about finding what works best for you and using it to your advantage.

I think my biggest challenge with this goal will be patience. A classic wardrobe can’t be built in a few shopping trips. It is going to take a lot of searching and a lot of time to save up for each classic piece. I’m excited nonetheless. :)
