the tv broke 3 years ago

otherwise i couldn’t have done it.

for awhile 4 years ago

I was finding myself putting on the TV all the time. Even if I wasn’t watching it. It was actually very distracting and I was getting little done (around the house and on my own self-improvement) Now I watch very little TV (Red Sox games of course) I now listen to music more and even sometimes enjoy the ‘sounds of silence’ which I’m doing now :-)

Stop your cable/satellite service 4 years ago

I didn’t stop watching TV because I have incredible will power. Let’s face it, it’s pretty darn hard to avoid turning on the TV in the room when it’s staring at you with its puppy eyes.

But due to a planned move I took advantage of the situation and did not start cable service at the new house. This was six months ago, and I haven’t watched any live TV since.

It was comparatively easy: I relied on my procrastinating instincts to just not calling the cable company. And as we all experienced, procrastination is always at your service.

What I’ve found is that we now have more family time, where we are paying attentions to each other rather than to the boobtube, that we actually have dinner conversations, and time to read books.

And with so many good TV series going to DVD soon after the season is over, you don’t have to give up your favorite series on TV. You can just go rent out the series and watch its entirety, if you can wait six months.

As long as I procrastinate on re-starting cable, I’m in safe territory.

Ever since I moved to the country... 4 years ago

I have been watching so much less TV! I didn’t realize how much I had been watching before, but now when I go over to other people’s houses and they are watching TV I am so bored. I feel so much more productive and fulfilled when I am not watching so much TV. Worth doing :-)

When i moved into my current house we didnt have a tv, and we just decided to not get one for a while.. then we just ended up not getting one at all. took a couple of weeks to get used to it but now all i watch is dvds on my laptop when i want to watch something, and it’s great! so much time wasted watching tv! the only thing i miss is the news… i didnt know the pope was dead for a week!

no more cable... 4 years ago

our cable got cut off last night. since we never really hooked it up, I suppose this was inevitable… but it still really sucks. On the other hand, I watch WAY too much, so this is probably a good thing. For the next few weeks I may be at a complete loss as to what to do with myself though… maybe I will work on my other goals….
