How I did it: i just did it a little at a time, when i felt like it. i really didn't have any expectations for it, so i like it just the way it came out. it feels good to have something i can hang up and show to others :) Read how I did it…
How I did it: Just made it a priority on a few occasions and when I couldn't seem to get the second canvas right I just painted over it and the contrast between the two actually works out really well as the base colour of the 2nd one is the same as my dark brown feature wall with the fireplace yet I've hung the painting on the opposite wall (cream) and put a mirror opposite that above the fire place to make a nice feature... anyway think it… Read how I did it…

How I did it: I started the painting long ago in New York, but then I moved back to Holland and couldn't take the painting with me. In the end I agreed that my roommate (who is way better then me) would finish it. He just told me it's done, no idea what it looks like :) Read how I did it…

How I did it: This painting began as a whirlwind task because I had not picked up oils in years. I found an inspiring picture and chipped away at it full force for the first two weeks. After the first two weeks, I lost interest and kept the painting in the back of my mind. I did NOT put it away though. I purposely cleared my desk and left the painting out so that I could not ignore it. This painting took me about two months to complete. After the initi… Read how I did it…

because i was frustrated and sad because i didn’t really know what else to do with myself… with that time. ugh. frustrated but the paint always helps. so i got rid of the background completely. no buildings, no people, just hues of rose and burgundy… and it works. praise frustration to make the portrait more interesting than it was in the beginning. i also added little folds and wrinkles on my subject’s shirt. the rosy background made it onto the shirt too. it’s weird but it works.

tonight is the night i finish already. i’m tired of looking at this same dude every day! it needs something, definitely. tonight i finish, even if it sucks. after all, it’s only on paper. i was too afraid to do it on canvas. ain’t that a drag!
Lunacera wanting to redesign my life.
It began with a little portrait of a controversial author I had never heard of before. The black and white newspaper photo was powerful and inspiring, and I thought it would make a good oil painting. I haven’t played with oils in YEARS, but I thought it was time. I jumped in full force and am 80% done. But things have changed. I look at the painting and feel it needs something other than what the original shows. I want to add surreal elements to it- not simply copy the original photo. I’m conflicted and afraid to finish. What’s the worse thing that could happen? I even avoided painting it on canvas so that it would seem more disposable.

I am ALMOST done with my portrait this controversial writer who I had never heard of before. It is looking pretty good I think…

Yeah, yeah, yeah!

while the paints are still strewn from the week’s deadlines, while all is still fresh and the afternoon stretching unencumbered, I will finish.

I know how to finish it. At last. Simply. When deadlines are done, I will do it in one fell swoop and then smile very quietly in a knowing, Rat-like way that suggests it was intended to be completed this way all along.

Torrential rains have turned the Factitious Girl into primordial ooze. When the sun comes out and dries her off, I will see the progress (or subsequent demise).
I got a painting lying around at home, wating to be set.. it´s for one of my best friends and I need to get it finished… suck it up!
