re-learn german

I learnt German for 9 months in 2005, and forgot most of it.
I want to relearn it again.

signing up for a grad program that will take me back to Germany for 8 months will help a lot! my program’s in english, but I hope to regain the German needed for daily conversation, as well as some more technical vocabulary.

well i guess i don’t exactly need to relearn it. It’s just that I don’t have a huge vocabulary bank; have tried reading kid stories to get it improved but i get bored real quick. any tips?

I finished the German self study course I was doing and I started writing in my diary every second night in German. It is still a bit hard and I have to use my dictionary often but that’s how it was with Spanish and now I don’t need my Spanish dictionary anymore so it will just take time.

i took the Goethe Institute’s online placement test for their courses. they recommended me for the B1, or low-intermediate course. considering i only ever achieved an intermediate level in the first place, i was pretty pleased with that!

I FINALLY found my German Language CDs. Yesterday I began listening to them, starting from Disc 1. It’s a bit like being back in German 1 in highschool again! Except, I remember more and am thus able to skip some parts.

On to Disc 2 later this evening, hopefully.

:D I had forgotten all about the word verheiratet, meaning married. And other words. Oh, the German words! So fun to hear them again!

Took it for AS level and I want that level of understanding back. I can’t believe how few words I remember now, as opposed to then when I could read edging on fluently. Perhaps a supplementary course at uni next year?

the best way to learn something is to teach it. i’m now teaching (very!) elementary German to 2 people. and i’m recalling a lot for myself in the process.

I took German in high school. I would love to visit Germany someday, but would like to learn the language before I go.

I lived in Germany when I was a child and knew German fluently but have since lost it. I would like to relearn this language.
