Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

carpe_diem_for_me*Song #8 ~ "Touch of Faith" by Joy Williams*

Most live a lifetime and never see,
The soul of tomorrow in someone’s eyes.
Some give up on all of their dreams,
One second before they materialize.
But love broke through walls of stone.
It was You, it was You alone.

You crack the sky like broken glass.
You rescued me when my chance had passed.
Sometimes things aren’t as hard as you may think.
Because all you need is just a touch of faith.

Some never ever turn a key,
To the door of their heart’s desires.
Too afraid to fall somewhere in between,
Tomorrow’s fears and the pressure’s fires.
Your love broke throgh walls of stone.
It was You, it was You alone.

Your touch pushed back the clouds just like the sun.
Your hand pulled me out of the hardest time,
That I’ve ever known, that I ever knew,
Oh, Lord, that was all because I met You.
Your love broke through walls of stone.
It was You, it was You alone.

carpe_diem_for_me*Song #7 ~ "Rescue" by Newsong*

You are the source of life,
I can’t be left behind.
No one else will do.
I will take hold of You.

I need You, Jesus.
I need You, Jesus.

My heart is Yours for life.
I need Your hand in mine.
No one else will do.
Lord, I put my trust in You.

I need You, Jesus,
To come to my rescue.
Where else can I go?
There’s no other name,
By which I am saved.
Capture me with grace.
I will follow You.

This world has nothing for me.
This world has nothing for me.

Words and music by Jared Anderson

carpe_diem_for_me*Song #6 ~ "Beautiful, Beautiful" by Francesca Battistelli*

Don’t know how it is You looked at me,
And saw the person that I could be.
Awakening my heart,
Breaking through the dark,
Suddenly Your grace

Like sunlight burning at midnight,
Making my life something so beautiful, beautiful.
Mercy reaching to save me,
All that I need,
You are so beautiful, beautiful.

Now there’s a joy inside I can’t contain.
But even perfect days can end in rain.
And though it’s pouring down,
I see You through the clouds,
Shining on my face.

Like sunlight burning at midnight,
Making my life something so beautiful, beautiful.
Mercy reaching to save me,
All that I need,
You are so beautiful, beautiful.

I have come undone,
But I have just begun,
Changing by Your grace.

Like sunlight burning at midnight,
Making my life something so beautiful, beautiful.
Mercy reaching to save me,
All that I need,
You are so beautiful, beautiful.

Song by Francesca Battistelli, Ian Eskelin, and Andrew Fromm

Those words “Like sunlight burning at midnight” stand out to me. In my hardest of times, that is what He has been for me. 5 years ago

carpe_diem_for_me*Song #5 ~ "The Altar and the Door" by Casting Crowns*

Casting Crowns is an awesome group of singers, musicians, and songwriters that I can listen to for hours on end, and their music literally speaks to me…

Careless, I am reckless.
I’m a wrong-way-travelin’-slowly-unraveling shell of a man.
Burned out, I’m so numb now.
That the fire’s just an ember way down in the corner of my cold, cold, heart.

Lord, this time I’ll make it right.
Here at the altar I lay my life.
Your kingdom come, but my will was done.
My heart is broken as I…

Cry, like so many times before.
But my eyes are dry before I leave the floor.
Oh, Lord, I try but this time, Jesus, how can I be sure,
I will not lose my follow through between the altar and the door?

Here at the altar, oh my world so black and white.
How could I ever falter,
From what you’ve shown me to be right?

Lord, this time I’ll make it right.
Here at the altar I lay my life.
Your kingdom come, but my will was done.
My heart is broken as I…

Cry, like so many times before.
But my eyes are dry before I leave the floor.
Oh, Lord, I try but this time, Jesus, how can I be sure,
I will not lose my follow through between the altar and the door?

I’m trying so hard, to stop trying so hard.
Just let You be who you are, Lord, who You are in me.
Jesus, I’m trying so hard, to stop trying so hard.
Just let You be who You are, Lord, who You are in me ~ Oh, Lord I

Cry, like so many times before.
But my eyes are dry before I leave the floor.
Oh, Lord, I try but this time, Jesus, how can I be sure,
I will not lose my follow through between the altar and the door?

carpe_diem_for_me*Song #4 ~ "When I Fall" by Rachael Lampa*

How can I find You?
Are You hiding or am I?
Should I go or should I wait for a sign?
Following Your voice, walking through a desert night.
I see a silent storm in the sky.

And I stand in my emotion, and I let it be my own.
I know I’m not forsaken, and I’ll never be alone.

When I fall, when I fall,
I know where I’ll be landing.
When I fall, when I fall,
You will still be standing.

Somewhere in the silence I can hear a broken voice,
Like a radio station fading out of range.
Somewhere in the crowd from the corner of my eye,
I thought that I could feel You walking by.

And when I get this feeling like I am not so strong,
I can still can feel You with me.
Yeah, You’ve been there all along.

When I fall, when I fall,
I know where I’ll be landing.
When I fall, when I fall,
You will still be standing.

Somewhere I’m alone, won’t You take my empty hands?
And fill them with Your love, won’t You take me as I am?

When I fall, when I fall,
I know where I’ll be landing.
When I fall, when I fall,
You will still be standing.

carpe_diem_for_me*Song #3 ~ "You Led Me" by BarlowGirl*

Good morning, the night is over and gone.
I thought once this dark would last for so long.

Feel the sunlight on my face.
You have brought me through this place.

Jesus, Jesus You found me.
Through the long night You led me.
You set me free.

Do you see just what You’ve done in my life?
You gave me more than I hoped for now I

Feel the sunlight on my face.
You have brought me through this place.

Jesus, Jesus You found me.
Through the long night You led me.
You set me free.

Words and music by BarlowGirl

There is nothing else I can say about this song ~ it’s just awesome. When you go through something really hard and God brings you through it to the other side ~ and you feel the sunlight on your face again…

You know that God is the one that brought you through that place. I am much stronger today because of those places that He has brought me through…

carpe_diem_for_me*Song #2 ~ "All Around Me" by Rebecca St. James*

I can remember listening to this song during a particularly hard time in my life before I got married ~ I would come in from work, eat, and just go to sleep listening to this song on repeat…

Yesterday mid-afternoon my thoughts kept turning back to You.
In my mind, You’d flood my head with echoes of the things You said.

Hey, I cannot explain.
The thought of who You are,
Makes me understand…

If I see my world come tumbling down,
If I feel my heart touching the ground,
You’re all around me.
If everything starts to fade away,
And all I can do is call Your name,
You’re all around me.

Yesterday mid-afternoon my thoughts kept turning back to You.
From the sky stretched into space, to the sunshine on my face.

Hey, I cannot explain. I see You in it all.
I hear You call my name…

If I see my world come tumbling down,
If I feel my heart touching the ground,
You’re all around me.
If everything starts to fade away,
And all I can do is call Your name,
You’re all around me.

Written by Rebecca St. James, Pete Stewart, and Brad Duncan

When my world was crumbling, and my heart was broken, and everything that I thought that was certain was fading away ~ when literally all I could do was say His name ~ He was all around me...

carpe_diem_for_me*Song #1 ~ "Homemade" by Nicole C. Mullen*

Ah, this woman is awesome! Listen to this:

Riding the city bus, on the way to school
Me and my two sisters and all the ridicule.
The older girls on the back of the bus
Would laugh and call us names.
They’d talk about our hair, our clothes, and call us homemade.

See, the “not so good ole’ days” can make you weak or make you brave.

I’ve never been the most beautiful.
No, I’ve never been the most popular.
But it’s amazing what love can do.
It’s amazing what a little love can do.

Every thought and action is like a boomerang.
What goes around will come back, baby, so careful what you say.
And the little ugly ducklings are swans that got away.
‘Cause Cinderella stories, they still happen everyday.

Where the “not so good ‘ole days” could make you weak or make you brave.

I’ve never been the most beautiful.
Don’t care, I’ve never been the most popular.
Still it’s amazing what love can do.
It’s amazing what a little love will do.

I bumped into a stranger just the other day
She said, “Can you spare a dollar, sister? My man hasn’t got paid.”
So I gave her what I had, then I recognized her face.
She was the leader of the girls who used to call us homemade.

Back when the “not so good ‘ole days” could make you weak or make you brave.

I’ve never been the most beautiful.
I’ve never been the most popular.
But it’s amazing what love will do.
Isn’t it amazing what homemade love will do?

Words and music by Nicole C. Mullen

She is an amazing woman who used the hard times of her childhood to make her brave rather than weak. She is a strong, Christian woman that I very much admire ~ her voice is absolutely amazing!

My favorite part of the song is ~ Where the “not so good ‘ole days” could make you weak or make you brave, because I have seen those days. And I know that I am stronger for having lived them. I almost wouldn’t give up the hard times, because they have made me who I am today. It brings to mind my favorite quote from Mary Tyler Moore ~ “You can never be brave if you’ve only had wonderful things happen to you.”

I also love the second verse, because it speaks volumes to me and what I have witnessed in my life. I hope someone likes reading her song…
