The garden is looking fantastic, other than the front flower bed who is being choked by the sproutlings of trees :( But the flowers on the patio are doing well, considering all the hot weather we’ve had and the vegetables are exploding! I can’t wait until most of the food comes from our yard!
Mother’s Day weekend we got everything planted—tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, yellow squash, zucchini, green and red peppers and an assortment of flowers. It looks really nice out back and I just hope that they grow and produce! I also made some pots for our patio. Not sure how they’ll do. Those flowers don’t get a whole lot of sun. I didn’t get the night-time flowers like I wanted to. Maybe next year. I do have an mixture of herbs on my side porch, along with a pot of cherry tomatoes. Can’t wait!!
We have had a small vegetable garden for the past few years and I’d like to develop that a little more and then also have a garden around our patio. I love how much more enjoyable our yard is when we have plants and flowers growing. I’m so excited that the warm weather is arriving!
Winding paths… snaking vines… scrambling veges… chooks, ducks and pigs… relax, dream, observe. Enjoy.
I made a cute container garden this year, next year I want to plant something in the ground ! I have grand plans for a medicinal herb garden, and I’d like to grow some organic corn… I need to find some land, anybody have a field I can come farm on ? he he

this goal is staring at me with big sad puppy eyes every time I scan my list, and realistically, it will be next year before I will have time and energy to tackle it properly.
I am happy enough with the big clear out at the end of last summer, and I will just keep it neat and tended until I have time to dig out the beds and plant properly. Sops, sops to my guilt as this goal goes off the active list for the moment :-D
I’ve been thinking about this for years, and since it’s connected to one of the characters in my next novel, it’s time to begin. But I’m not really learning for the character. It’s soul work, work that I’ve known intuitively that I should be doing. So far, I’ve weeded and prepped some dirt for growing something, repaired a bit of pipe so that watering will be easier, and filled up a nice rock pool left by the former residents. (It even has a bit of recycled falls going.) I’m after beauty, and to create a space in my urban neighborhood where a bit of sanctuary can be found.
When I was a kid I planted this little garden on the side of my house. I live in Florida, 25 feet from the damn water. Dig five inches and it’s sand, dig a foot and it’s water. I thought I was a freaking botanical genius. Of course, as soon as I grew one single beautiful tomato a hurricane blew in and killed it… I was crushed.
If you live in a better place that Florida, go ahead. I’m sure it’s very rewarding.

in my back garden, as everything runs to seed and roses and honeysuckle tangle along the walls.
But it could be nicer, with just a little care and attention.
And I need to clear space to plant a tree.
