get my cosmetology license

I went part time so it took 18 months. It was well worth it. Good luck to everyone starting out. I have only had my license 4 years and I am still taking new clients. With the economy things slowed down a little for me. Don’t get discouraged. When you start off be willing to take late appts and stuff to get clients. It is a lot of work but you can be your own boss. That is the best part.

in like 3weeks i’ll be starting school, and im actually really nervous about it.I hope i do well in it, they said there will be a lot of homework and im not looking forward to that but its only a year and then i can get a job!

I’m getting there. I can’t believe that I ONLY have 500 hours, but I’m glad that I finally have that many. Every time I get discouraged, I just imagine what my life will be like when I have my license. I’ll have a career, not just a job. Not only that, I’ll be happy to wake up in the morning and go to work. Also, I’ll be making some pretty good money, and my husband and I can start saving for our first house.

I should be done in late August, early September, and hopefully I’ll get a job pretty fast. Our lease is up in November, so we can save for a better and bigger apartment, then save for a house. That is the main thing that’s pushing me right now. I really want a better apartment, then a better house.

500 down, and a WHOLE lot more to go.

I started going to school again. I hadn’t been since October, and I’m so ashamed of myself. I’m going full time, and I plan on having my license by August!

My husband was very sketchy about me going back to school, because he’s the only one working at the moment. He wasn’t supporting me, and I can’t blame him. I wasn’t serious about school, so why should be take me seriously? But I have proven to him that I’m ready to make this work, and I’m ready to go back. He knows that I want this more than anything, and he’s supporting me.

My fingerwaves have improved so much, and I’m back in the groove of taking clients. When I go to school now, I get at least 8 procedures done before the end of the day. I know that if I keep this up, I’ll be ready for State Board when it’s time for be to go!

Well, I finished school on December 16th, 2008! Woo-hoo! I am supposed to be at State Board taking my test right now (litereally, right now,) but one of my other goals has overlapped this one, making it a bad time. I am currently 7 – 8 weeks pregnant, and suffereing from severe nausea!!! I am okay if I eat something about every hour to 1.5 hours, which I can’t really do at State Board, and I have to tinkle a lot more often that I used to, on top of being just generally exhausted. Taking a 4 hour test on my feet is just not doable right now. So, as soon as this part of the pregnancy eases up (please God, don’t let me be one of those people who are sick the entire time…) I will go reapply to take my test. I am really glad that I finally got to go to school for this, it is something I have wanted to do my entire life. With the economy in it’s current state, I would be crazy to change jobs right now, so I will be staying put. I plan on applying my licenses (Cosmetology once I get to take my test, and Esthetician, which I already have) by doing special events hair and makeup. Weddings, proms, for photography, etc. I did a contract job in May of last year and got paid $85/hour to do makeup on some lawyers for their promotional pictures. Not too shabby. It is mostly seasonal, and you can make a nice chunk of change in one day. Later on I may at some point work in a salon, but I really feel like contract work is where it will be at for me, unless I own the salon myself.

I’m FOR SURE going to school. I hung out with a friend who goes to school with me, and it made me miss everyone. Plus, we went to a store where they only sell to professionals, and seeing everything, being around it, for some reason really made me want to get back in the grove of things.

Like I’ve said before, I’m not bad at doing hair at all. I’m really quite good at it, if I do say so myself. And I want to do it, but I’m so freakin’ lazy! I need to grow up and get over it. I’m married for God’s sake. When I have a baby, this can’t happen anymore so I need to learn to wake up and stay awake.

So yeah. Tomorrow. I’m going to school. I don’t care how freakin’ tired I am. I’ll get Starbucks in the morning if I have too!

I’m currently enrolled in Cosmetology school, and I’m really good at it, but I keep missing too much school! I know that cosmetology is something I really want to do, and I’m not horrible at it. I can see myself doing this for many years to come, but for some reason, I can’t motivate myself enough to get out of bed in the morning and go to school.

My graduation date has been pushed back so many times. It’s now in July of 2009. Hopefully…I can make it.

I can’t stand State Boards for any state…you call them and they are the most useless people in the world. Too bad they hold so much power.
