I’m planning on starting a BIG acrylic painting, it is mostly going to be a bunch of colors on the canvas hopefully blending into each other here and there, some areas being light, watered down or slightly covered with primer, some will be darker and more intense in color. I’m going for a graffiti type look I guess- the painting is mostly going to be colors in the background and words, quotes, doodles…kind of like a big canvas sketchbook. I’m not sure what I’m doing but painting is fun and it might look cool in the end, by luck or by skill. Just going to experiment alittle before really getting into “studying” the art of painting in acrylics.

I actually learned to paint with acrylics, so they are automatically my favorite. I started with acrylics on murals that I painted in my childhood bedroom. I’ve grown to like oils and other paints, but watercolor is my flaw. I can’t paint worth a crap when I’m using watercolors…maybe I should make a goal: “Learn to paint with watercolors”! LOL!

I used to think, wow, I wish I could paint . . . just pick up a brush and try it! When I did, I actually found that painting was easier for me than drawing! Now I paint almost daily and have sold several paintings in a gallery! Remember, IT’S ONLY PAINT! If it doesn’t work out, just PAINT OVER IT AGAIN!

I adore the fast drying nature of acrylics and the way you can build layers quickly. It can be tricky though! It’s great for spontaneous creations. Do it… You know you want to.

I got a bunch of paints and an easel for christmas!!! I’ve done my very first picture!! It’s so much fun. Just need to find the time to sit down and enjoy. It’s very relaxing. I’d love to take a class as well. There’s only so much you can teach yourself.

Did it myself 3 years ago

I saw a minimalist painting of trees hanging in a Banana Republic and thought it would look cool in my apartment. The more I looked at it, I began to think I could do that myself. So, I bought a brush, small canvas, and some beige and dark brown acrylic paints. I started with a smaller picture in case I was wrong and couldn’t do it myself after all. I asked a lady at the store for some advice and she told me I should gesso the canvas before painting it. So, I did – though not very well. I was too impatient to wait 24hrs and I started painting immediately. It may not be a perfect work of art and definitely not everyone’s preferred style, but it turned out exactly the way I wanted. I think it looks pretty good for my first time. I’m thinking about doing some larger scale paintings now. Just out of curiousity, if you are into this style of art, how much would someone pay for something like this? It’s about 12” x 12”. It was a lot of fun to do, and if I keep it up I’ll run out of wall room. It might be fun to keep painting and sell on ebay or something.
