Right after I wrote the previous entry I phoned my ‘huisarts’ (General Practicioner) and she wrote me a note for the laboratory. I will pick that up later on this week and next week I WILL get my cholesterol checked!

Someone I know – aged 36 – needs to have heart surgery.
Since I know my grandfather had high cholesterol and I myself had very high cholesterol levels some years ago (later on it improved) this is a tremendously important goal for me.
Why do I not come into action then??!!
- Because my mind plays a trick on my, telling me I need to eat properly for some time (how long? – a week, a month?) before I can have the check and because I will need to be checked a few times in a row just to make sure the results are adequate.
What is the worst thing that can happen? – That my cholesterol levels are sky high and I will need to take medication. But isn’t it for the better then that I know about that?!
My Love offered to come with me and have the cholesterol check together, very sweet of him. I don’t know if it is necessary that he comes with me; I can do this on my own, I just need to deal with it, that’s all.
I hereby declare that I will make an appointment and have my cholesterol checked by next week. There.
This has been my new years resolution for three years in a row now, so it needs to be done – soon!
Everything was totally in normal range so my cholesterol was good. Well, guess I’ll do this again in 5 years.
I finally made my appointment to get my cholesterol checked for Monday next week. I’m a little nervous but it’s better to find out now if my numbers are high before something terrible happens!

Great news. The ratio was 2.2 which is very good. I try and eat a healthy diet but genetic factors can play a part. I know now that whatever it becomes in the future is entirely down to me.
Done it, I’m fine, no diabetes either. Felt a little guilty for having normal cholesterol, considering all the junk i eat. Well might as well enjoy it while i can.
If you don’t know what the results are going to be, it can make you a little nervous. But once you know, you have the power to do something.
