Well not exactly the renaissance festival but the medieval week. The medieval week is a one week long kind of festival/faire in Sweden. I’ve been there three times (2002, 2005, 2006), dressed in medieval clothes all times. My first medieval outfit was a simple linen under and overdress. A very simple, easy to make and cheap peasant outfit. The second and third time I went there I wore the dark blue noble lady’s velvet dress shown in the photo. I spent lots of money on the material and even more time on the sewing but it was all worth it because I’m very pleased with the result. I have a black cloak with green celtic embroideries to go with the dress.
To all the people who want to complete this goal: It’s very worth doing! And sewing the clothes for the event by yourself is also worth doing.

It’s tradition for my husband and I to go to the Renaissance Faire at Casa de Fruta in California every year. We take our travel trailer up the night before and I dress up the next morning. We spend the whole day at the faire and can drink as much as we want knowing we don’t have to drive home. Dressing up is a blast. It makes me feel soooo sexy. It’s a way to come out of your shell where others never know you were in a shell to begin with. Do it! You’ll have a great time!!!

Loads of fun!
I am not a CA but I was somewhat stunned when I went to one in Maryland and most people were dressed like tourists.

Went to this in Maryland back in October. Got totally wasted on Meade at the festival.. hehehe. My dress was too tight and I couldn’t breathe so I kinda fell asleep on the table in the eating area..heheh

in a wedding in period dress at the NY Ren faire several years ago. It was quite lovely and I truly enjoyed wandering the faire in period dress, playing the part.

This is the best. Just make sure that you drink lots of water. I am passed out from the outfit. I currently own 2 outfits that I bought off of ebay, they are beautiful! Now I only wear these outfits on Halloween, the renny fair in my area closed :( But if you can, you should do this, it is sooooo worth it! look for royal coffers on ebay, she has great work. I included a pic of my sisters friends rennf wedding. all of the outfits came from ebay, royalcoffers.

I spend my summers doing this. It is so much fun. You get to be someone else for a while.

I have always done this – it gives you a much better excuse for being drunken and bawdy.
Plus – it’s one of the few places that really a lot of cleavage is useful – holds all kinds of stuff!

What’s great about going in “garb” is that you stop seeing the people in regular clothes (or muggles if you will) and all you see are the people dressed up. The characters hired to work there treat you differently as well. Just don’t be surprised if someone asks you the way to the washroom.

It’s a lot cheaper if you build up a costume over time and a few faires. And the costumes are totally reusable for Halloween costumes, or just for the hell of it! It’s FUN!
