I’ve gone from a Hyundai Tiburon full of stuff, to a one bedroom apartment full of stuff, to a two bedroom apartment full of stuff, to one big bedroom worth of stuff, to one tiny bedroom worth of stuff.

I hope to get back down to a carload worth of stuff, at which point I’ll hit the road.

Better and Better  — 1 month ago

There is now NOTHING in my closet, or in my dresser drawers, that doesn’t fit. Also, that I don’t like. This takes up much less room than did all the clothes I was dragging around in case I needed them someday. And if I take something out of the closet, it fits and I like it. Excellent.

But the junk is worth something  — 2 months ago

I don’t need the junk, but… I just can’t get rid of it. It’s like throwing money away.

Ok. Ok. I’m gonna figure what it’s worth at Goodwill and come up with a round figure. I’m only gonna donate $200 worth of retail/as-is junk.

slow going  — 3 months ago

There is so much crap I don’t need, but I hang on to it for sentimental reasons.
    Or crafty reasons.
(I save ticket stubs from movies, playbooks from performances, pictures, etc. because they could be handy in a scrapbook or on a wall of inspiration some day. But for now they are just in the way!)
    Oh whatever shall I do?

    ¡viva el minimalismo! :)

dang it  — 3 months ago

I have two bags of old clothes riding around in the trunk of my car (for two months) that I need to remember to take to Goodwill. I need to get it out! I need to continue the culling, as well. I can’t bring myself to get rid of my old costumes, like the Rocky Horror Picture show costumes, even though it has been 6 or 7 years since they were worn! I’m working up to that.

Loving This Goal  — 4 months ago

I have been working on getting rid of our excess stuff for a while now, well I should say WE have been working on it. My husband is really good at it. But it is so nice to just have things that we really enjoy around us. If we haven’t seen something for a year, obviously it is not that important. I used to hang on to things for the memories they brought me. But then I realized that stuff is just stuff, and our home is so much more comfortable now. I don’t need a box full of old junk to remember my past, I need space to create my future. :) Not done, but making progress.

    ........  — 5 months ago

well, 2 months later i’m STILL working on it..

i thought i was making good progress but i swear my stuff reproduces. every time i get rid of something there’s ten more things behind it.

    Goodbye  — 5 months ago

I gave up this goal because I have a better goal to replace it. “Own nothing.” Of course, it does not mean to actually own “nothing,” but I feel it will get me further in the minimalist direction. The things you own own you.

    done.  — 7 months ago

    Worth doing!

Don’t even really need the days I’ve got left. I moved out in September and basically got rid of everything I didn’t want to take with me. And with those gone, I hardly have any stuff left at all. Just my music and essentials, right. I’m happy now. :)
