Celebrate fall by purging my home and sending the unwanted, broken, and unloved away like leaves on the wind

I actually am deranged enough to spend valuable pre-Christmas time organizing desk drawers, but I’m going to force myself not to. As is so often the case, the mysterious piles and shelves of the bedroom prove my undoing.

But a lot was purged and dealt with, so this goal is classified as victorious.

• Finish putting away outside gear

Garage cleaned out
A lot of things just had to be repacked into the appropriate boxes (art supplies, summer toys, etc). A few outgrown and abused chum outside toys went to the road with a “free” sign – as always gone within a few hours.

Garage stuff, 2 bags of my clothes, a bag of the chum’s clothes and junk toys, etc.

Reviewed and replaced the hutch things
Many games boxed and garaged for a few years. The art area has been boxed into clear shoe boxes by type (still needing labels) but there’s still room under there!

Hall Closet
Only a few things to purge in there – the chum hasn’t outgrown his mittens or hats.

I finally got the box of my childhood stuffed animals and dolls from my Dad’s house. And they were completely destroyed. Mildewed or chewed up – virtually nothing was salvageable.

So horrible. I couldn’t stop weeping. Thank goodness GG was there for support.

2 bags of clothes out. Mostly stuff that’s gotten too worn. Only one pair of shoes though.

I need more winter clothes badly. Infants and toddlers are murder on sweaters.

• Went through the chum’s clothes. Sorted outgrown clothes into the charity, consignment, and save piles. Boxed up and added to appropriate out piles.

• Went through the under stair storage. Brought some stuff back out (Hi gargoyle!) and sent some large things out through Freecycle (i.e. the curtains for the sliding class door we no longer have). A few items added to the ebay box, which many actually start happening as GG is now interested. Will start passing larger baby items to Bumble after Christmas when we open the storage up to put decorations away.

• Outside has begun. Finally finally finally shoveled and dealt with the mulch pile that’s been in the driveway all year. Also got rid of some unneeded garden edgers on Freecycle.

I’ve been eyeing up a lot of these purging, decluttering goals lately so I figured it was time to add one. We’re drowning in our clutter and honestly losing things within it. Here’s a break-down of what needs to be done:

Oh my, I’m exhausted just typing it all out. I’m going to try to cross at least one item off each day. Let’s see if I can have this list completely done by the first day of winter…just in time for all the Christmas Clutter.

has mostly been in the living room as things come back in. We’ve pulled out a box of books from the shelves and purged most of the videotapes (also a few DVDs).

Reviewed the hutch glassware. It’s a bit better to see what’s in it. A few things to go and a few things to start using.
