How to Fair Isle knit
How to learn fair isle knitting
How I did it: I found the Tiffany Mittens from knitty-- the same ones that had inspired me to learn to knit in the first place. I got a weird gauge and had to start all over again after finishing the cuff but it was well worth it.
Lessons & tips: Learn how to strand for long color floats.
Resources: A random woman in Knit & Pearl Boutique in Santa Barbara, CA taught me to strand.

Jorid Linvik does some really nice fair isle designs and on ravelry there’s a knitalong forming for a pair of mittens. If you sign up with the group, you can get the pattern free by pming the mod. This may be my first try at fair isle!
I think I’m going to have to play with some swatches first, but I finally got Alice Starmore’s Celtic Collection and it’s got some really wonderful fair isle projects in it. They are all gorgeous!
Took Beverlee Little’s class at Weaving Works in July, 2008. A fascinating technique. Now I want to make a hat.

Last night I cast on for a little purse that uses the Fair Isle technique. (The “fake Isle” hat that I mentioned here about a year ago was just too darN ugly to finish!) This little bag uses only two colors but has a nice design.
So far, I have done 7 rows of the stranded colors. I think it’s going to come out just fine. Yay!
It’s something I’ve always wanted to do. I have a weird time with intarsia and my tension, so maybe fair isle would be a better fit for me. There are so many great patterns for this out there!

I was just reading the Spring 2007 knitty.com site and found this awesome pattern :http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEspring07/PATTbmp.html
I think these socks are lots of fun, and someday I would like to master the Fair Ise technique to the point of being able to knit them.

I cast on for the “Fake Isle” Hat in Fall 2006 Magknits. I’m using a Noro Kureyon in shades of purple, olive, and rust with a solid purple Brown Sheep Lamb’s Pride worsted for the contrasting color. The first few inches of the hat look great! I’m about to get to the Fair Isle pattern and I can’t wait to start it.
