We have been moved in for close to a month. We love it down here. We both start our jobs tomorrow.
How to pack up and move
How I did it: My boyfriend came over in his relatively new car (I feel bad about making him put on unnecessary miles) all the way from Brookline, NH to help me move up to Boston. I was still packing last minute things when he arrived the day before and continued to pack until the morning we left. I was bringing everything to the front door and he was bringing it all to his car. He's so awesome! I drove since he was tired from driving the day before and then we woke up early and he had to load my things into the car. He napped, which I kinda feel bad about because there was some beautiful scenery on route 15. The snow was light and powdery on the pine trees. It really was beautiful. I wish I wasn't driving, otherwise I would've taken my camera out and took pictures. I got to listen to the unauguration on the radio.

My goal today is to get the living room and dining room all cleaned up and everything there packed. Tonight DH says we will finish the bedroom. Most of the office is ready to go already. We sign our lease on the 1st, and are bringing some stuff then, but not moving entirely until the 4th.
and communicates with our new place to tell them we’re good renters, we will be moving on August 4th. I don’t want to wait until the last minute, and I want this transition to be as smooth as possible. We’re actually moving 2 hours away, so we don’t have our family’s houses to stash stuff at like we have been this past year. I want everything packed into boxes, labeled, easy to sort and unpack.
So far I’ve cleaned up the office… I’m working on the bedroom. I’m surfacing cleaning each room first.

I don’t like big city life as much as I’d thought…lots of stuff to do but so spread out and expensive! And it smells ;)
Going back to the college towns of Champaign-Urbana, where there are trees and a greater sense of community.

After a few weeks of packing, travelling, packing more, travelling again, packing yet more, moving under the rain, and finally unpacking, I can wind down a bit before the holiday season starts winding up again!
We’re still without Internet, phone, garbage and recycling bins, and a mailbox —the mailperson won’t slide our letters under the door! Oh, but what a great feeling to be finally unpacked! :)

I’m really behind in this, and I leave on Wednesday for a couple of weeks! Most things have to be packed by Tuesday, and I’m not even 10% done :P I was thinking of taking a break from 43 from Wednesday on, but I might move ahead that goal.

I’m mostly moved in now, and it feels Grrrrrreat! :D
- Dialup sucks, but at least I have dialup now. The phone guy came around 6:00 p.m. and hooked up the phone. I didn’t realize a technician was supposed to come to the house to do the phone. It’s a good thing I was home! Cable guy comes tomorrow morning to hook up the TV and modem.
- My first incoming call was from the landlords at my old place. My lease is up at the end of August, but they offered to prorate my rent back to me if I get all the rest of my stuff moved and the placed cleaned earlier. That’s money in my pocket! Yay! They’re ripping up the carpet, so I don’t have to shampoo it. Yay!
- The cats are freaked out. They both hid in different rooms when I brought them to the new home. One has finally come out and is exploring. The other comes out every so often, but disappears again. The dog is at the kennel.
- The movers didn’t break anything (that I’ve noticed).
- My new house rocks!!! I could just cry. :)
- I can’t hook up my washer because of dry rotted washer connections. It’s good I caught up on laundry before the move. I need to call a plumber.
- I’m going to sign off. I’ll catch up on comments and email after the cable modem gets hooked up tomorrow. Thanks for all the well wishes!! :)

It’s time to take the network offline, pack the cable modem and router, and go to bed. Talk to you from the new house tomorrow. Goodnight! :)

I packed up the TiVos and cable boxes today, and moved some small furniture. I still have the cable modem and router up and running for internet access, but that’ll just take about 5 minutes to pack later.
I panicked a little while ago. When I scheduled the move, I asked the movers if I needed to unhook the washer and dryer myself. Yes. So I tried to unhook the washer today, and wasn’t able to. What could I do?
- Call a friend. Who? I don’t know.
- Leave it here and get a new one for the new house because a new high efficiency washer would be great. That probably sounds stupid, but that’s how my mind works. I need to save my money, though.
- Call the moving company and ask if they’d do it.
I picked number 3. I told them I tried very hard to unhook it myself, and couldn’t, and asked if they offered that service. He was really nice, and said that yes, they would do it for me. Problem solved, thank goodness.
I’ll be taking Lily Dawg to the kennel shortly, so she’ll be out of the way for the move tomorrow morning. She doesn’t know it, but she’s never coming back to this home. I’ll take her to our new home when I pick her up on Friday evening.
