I’ve given up on the clarinet. I’m really not very musically talented, and the clarinet doesn’t lend itself to improvisation and playing by ear the same way other instruments do. It just became more frustrating than enjoyable.
How to practice the clarinet more often
How I did it: I joined Northamptonshire Orchestral Winds. My daughter also joined so she could learn Flute and we practice regularly and encourage each other. Now I have to practice or make a fool of myself at band practice.

The first time I tried to play a clarinet was when I was a young child and my mom had joined a community band to learn to play the instrument. And I was hooked! It was the logical choice when I joined band class several years later (since we already had one and wouldn’t have to buy another instrument). I learned the clarinet and improved immensely, even getting solos in high school and in university! But alas, playing the clarinet has been put on the back burner since I am back in school (and living in an apartment with thin walls). Soon I hope to be able to start practicing again improving my technique with scales and exercises and maybe even finally being able to take professional lessons!
Learnt the clarinet for 5 years when i was younger, stopped quite 4 years ago and since then, i practice again three or four times a year… Wish i could find some time to do things funnier than studying law history…
well, my band class is worth a credit..and to get it we’re supposed to practice an hour every week..it’s now december..and i’ve precticed maybe…5 times?..not good. I need to work on this one
Practicing your clarinet more often helps you get better. Ten you can get scholorships. Clarinets are very common instruments and alot af people play them so you have to get better and better to beat them.
I haven’t “really” played since I graduated from college in 2001. I minored in Music, and practiced every week…now it’s down to about a year or so to just check up on the good ol’ clarinet. One day I’ll get back into it!
