work in a soup kitchen

I don’t want to do this because of a charitable instinct (or not mainly) but because I realised that I have a very limited social circle. I want to get to know people who have lived a different life to me.I hope I can learn more about the world, and maybe do something good along the way.

I actually emailed someone about working in a soup kitchen. I’m pretty pumped about it. A little nervous though-this particular one is a bit unconventional in that volunteers provide the food and then sit down and have dinner with the people who come to the shelter. I like it-a much friendlier atmosphere than most soup kitchens. But, for the same reasons, I’m nervous—I mean, what kind of conversation do you have with homeless people?? I’m certainly not trying to be hateful, but I don’t know what we have in common. I think the first time may be a little hard, but after that, I’ll be fine!
