Customise and make my own clothes

I used my machine for the first time today to take up a dress. I got it I think last summer for £1 from a charity shop. It fits perfectly but was too long for my 5’3” frame.. almost floor length! So an hour or so ago I hacked the bottom off to about knee length and proceeded to sew them hem up. So satisfying to go to a party [casual house party but still] wearing an outfit where the main component only cost £1 and 15 minutes of alteration.

I have a sewing machine! It’s my birthday in a couple of weeks and I received a sewing machine in the post from my parents as my present… good old Good Housekeeping offer from my mum’s magazine! With birthday money I think I’ll hit the haberdashery shop and get me some lace and beads and button etc then get to work on some sort of project, whether altering or working from scratch. Hoorah!
