I’m spending 6 weeks in Turkey this summer taking Turkish lessons 20 hours a week. I’m excited. So I will have English, French, and Turkish.
I want to learn the Romance languages as well as some of the Eastern European languages like Bulgarian and Hungarian. I want to learn Arabic and Chinese, for sure, and then if I have time, some African languages.
A lot to fit into a lifetime. :)

nature12 is reading in preparation for the FSOT
I am currently fluent in English and Spanish,
I am proficient in Brazilian Portuguese,
and I would like to learn to speak and read Italian, French, and at least have some knowledge of (Mandarin) Chinese…
...all within the next 3-5 years! I think it’s possible, I just have to make a study plan and stick to it! I am going to use a combination of Pimsleur Language Program, study aids, movies with subtitles, and of course the internet.

A random guy in a bar taught me how to say “I’m falling in love with you” and “I want to kiss you”. I vaguely remember how to say one of them, but I’m not sure which.

In a few weeks I’ll be starting Italian classes for my kick-ass trip this summer, and I’m very excited (about the classes as well as the trip.) Italian is such a beautiful language.
Vaffanculo!
Even cursing is beautiful. Thanks Colie for that one.

I bought Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stoneauf deutsch a little while ago. Compared to the 18thh century literature we’re reading in my German class right now, Rowling is a breeze! I’m so happy that I can read a book in German and actually know what’s going on.
Swedish is also going well.

Swedish is going well. I’m still really enjoying it. Hopefully that will keep up!
My German, on the other hand, is really suffering. My vocabulary was never very strong, and I feel like I’m out of my depth. Maybe I should make some flashcards for myself.

I’m a German philology (German language, rather than German culture/history/society) major, and am in 6th semester college German right now. It’s pretty daunting.
But I’m also taking a beginning Swedish course. It kinda seems like a cop-out, since many of the words are so similar, but I’m really happy with it. And wow—compared to my current German class, Swedish 1001 is a breeze. We’re reading and interpreting Kafka and Kleist in German right now… but in Swedish?
“Bok! Golv! Penna!” (Book, floor, pen!)
It’s refreshing.
