I think that learning this will really help me with my life. Plus it’s kind of weird that I don’t know my own language. haha.
How to learn to speak vietnamese
How I did it: I moved to Vietnam. I studied with a group at the Hue Learning Resource Center. I learned the alphabet and corresponding sounds. I chatted with people on the street, haggled with vendors, went out for coffee with locals.
Lessons & tips: Avoid English students - they just want to practice their English and will be of little help. One of my most helpful tutors was someone who spoke only Vietnamese and French. Remember how you learned studied English phonics? Pick up a Vietnamese 1st grade reader at the local bookstore. It's basic and easy to follow for sounding out words.

I am Vietnamese, I can understand the language perfectly but I never really practiced speaking the language. I can speak it a little bit here and there, but it’s just not enough to get by on my own.
I am very interested in asian culture. I will be based in Vietnam and traveling between Vietnam and China for my new adventure career. I will be manufacturing apparel as well as other product development for export to USA. I am also very interested in importing american products that may be difficult to get into Vietnam.

I just came back from travelling in VN for 3 months and learned a lot of survival/basic/slang Vietnamese just from hanging out with vietnamese people all the time. I really want to retain what I’ve learned though, and improve. So now that I’m back in the States I want to learn to read and write and get all the grammar stuff down. Anyone have any suggestions for a broke student who won’t spend more then $50 on books/programs but is still determined? I chat with friends I made over there but need something I can look up and study anytime of the day without bothering someone on the other side of the world.
cam on,
chuck
