I used to be known as someone who could keep any secret. People infact wouldn’t stop talking or talk quieter when I entered a room even if they were telling a juicy story because they knew i could keep it if i heard. After losing my best friend who was the person that my gossip would normally pour into, there was no one to direct it to so i started spilling to everyone. Known I’m known as a blabber mouth and people actually keep things from me because of it. I want to regain my name in the gossip world as a keeper not a spreader.
How to learn to keep a secret
How I did it: We go see the Trans-Siberian Orchestra every year around Christmas time, and this was our 9th year going. Last year was my first year at college and I wasn't home in time to go with my family. I had seen the west coast touring group in Seattle, but it didn't hold a candle to being at the concert with my family, seeing the east coast group I had grown up watching. To make this year extra special, I surprised my mom and sister by getting ahold of front-row seats. They didn't know until we got to the venue and I told them...but they flipped out! The looks on their faces were priceless, and I'm so glad I resisted the temptation to tell them a million times over the phone.
Lessons & tips: It can be hard to keep a secret, but once you learn how to you'll be better off for it. If it's something you can't actually tell someone, you'd be better off writing it down. And if it's something that no one can ever know, writing it down can still help...just make sure to destroy the paper afterwards! My secret wasn't something that would hurt someone, but there are many that can. I think it's important to remember that sometimes opening your mouth when it's not your place can really affect other people in negative ways. I learned that the hard way.
Resources: It was certainly an exercise to strengthen my willpower! Have a journal around, or a diary...something that you can confide in but won't run off and tell another person!

my friends are always getting mad at me for this. and i’ve lost a few temporarily because of it too. not only that but i have the reputation of a blabbermouth, meaning i always get the “news” last. eh. lets see what we can do with it. any tips?
I have a secret and I want to tell it. I hate biting my tongue so my secret doesn’t come out… I keep it because I worry about the response… it might not even be a secret… he might already know… but I couldn’t deal with it if he knew and well… its no good… no good at all.
Its gotten easier to keep things to myself. I kinda get a kick out of it now. Its thrilling, way more thrilling than telling someone.
So far so good… I have been doing well. I kept my secret but its been less than a week. LOL. But that’s a record for me.
Keeping a secret is the best thing you can do for a friend. It’s a proof of love, and complicity.
