and was quite frustrated with the inconsistency of my games. Shots that I should’ve been able to make, I was missing. I have asked a friend of mine from my pool team to help me with this goal and I think I will go back and start reading my books on pool. That should definitely help me with this goal.

that i do not shoot pool consistently.. Some days I can shoot well. Other days, I don’t. Sadly of late, those days I don’t are when I am shooting league. I must find a way to shoot more consistently.
It’s a beautiful thing. Last Friday was my second night out with it, first night on the 9 footers. Felt good to have it in my hands again instead of some knobby old bar stick. Sigh.
Oh, and my cue wasn’t actually warped, it was something to do with the threads on the joint that holds the damn thing together when it’s whole.
I had to send my cue back to McDermott. It was warping after only six months! What’s up with that? Anyhoo, I’ll be playing on a standard cue for a bit. Oh, well. I did get some books, Byrne’s Standard Book of Pool and Billiards, and the Advanced also. So now I’ve got some new stuff to think about, practice, etc. Kinda makes things interesting again…
Jan. 6: seven wins, nine losses (regular) one win, one loss (9-ball)
Jan. 10: three wins, one loss
Jan. 13: eight wins, five losses
Jan. 27: three wins, twelve losses
Feb. 3: four wins, nine losses
Seems like I took a bit of a nose-dive last week. I could definitely feel that I was sucking. In my defense, I was way hung-over on the 27th, and my hip “went out” on the 3rd and I was in tremendous pain and actually went home early (unheard of!).
Also, forgot to keep track on two other Palace sessions (always 9-foot tables), and hit the bar tables several times in the past coupla’ weeks.
Maybe it is also relevant to note that I am the only girl who plays with my group – I play with my husband, his dad, his uncle, and a friend of ours who has been visiting from Germany the past month or so. Not that a girl can’t play every bit as well as a guy, but I have noticed that there is basically a dearth of females shooting stick. Kinda like rock-n-roll.
Thursday, I was six games to the negative, six games to the positive. Friday, I won 8 and lost 12. Feeling pretty good about it, since I usually don’t win at all, or win under three games a session. Even though this goal is not necessarily about winning, it does give me a boost and I think it indicates an improvement in consistency as well. I am definitely trying to shoot softer and more evenly, though I haven’t developed much in the way of strategy, tricky shots, etc. Think I’m starting to get a feel for my new cue. Gotta love it.
Pool cue in hand! Now I just have to get used to the dang thing. But what a joyous feel. So smooth.
My husband and I are both getting McDermott cues for X-mas. So that should be a big plus.
I’m getting there. Only shot a few rounds tonight, but I was calm and didn’t blow too many shots. Still not a big winning night, but I finished with a grin. The main thing is to take my time, go with my gut, and not hit the damn balls so hard. The gentle touch is generally more accurate, if not so satisfying in the act, then satisfying in the result.
Last Friday I did a lot better. I was hitting my long-shots nice and clean, and I beat my husband three times and I beat his dad twice! So I was pretty stoked about that. My first game and my third game were my worst, but even then I only had three balls on the table when all was said and done (it’s REALLY frustrating when there are five or six balls still on the table when somebody wins!). The weird thing was, I was playing with a fiberglass stick (I usually use wood), and I started to feel like it was my “lucky stick.” Which is silly, but whatever gets the confidence flowing works for me. We’re playing again this afternoon. We’ll see what happens.
