Kimberly is feeling overloaded and busy.
When I first saw this, I was tempted to compare it to the original. However, there is a reason that the Gene Wilder version was titled Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory, while this version is entitled Charlie & The Chocolate Factory.
This version was more faithful to the original story than Willy Wonka was. Depp’s portrayal of Wonka really highlighted how tormented by his past and unadapted to normal socialization he was. Burton impressed me with his design for the Bucket house as well—it was striking how similar it was to the original illustrations from the book.
That said, I still prefer the Oompa Loompas and their songs from the original!

My friend gave a running commentary on the class politics of the Oompa Loompas and their parallels to Venezualan slave labour factory workers in the US, and the parallels between the cocoa bean and the american dollar (which they would do anything for) throughout the movies. It was worth it just for that :P

I may be old school but I enjoyed the original much more with Wilder. I like Depp as an actor bur in this movie I say he blew it.

I like to think of it as an entirely different movie than the first. In the first, Wilder is really the star. In this one, it’s the kids.
My kids loved it, even the little one managed to stay awake through most of it.

Id always loved the original, although there was something about that Charlie which annoyed me. This time round i loved Charlie, although perhaps thats the Brit in me! ;)
Either way they are both excellent films, its hard to compare them as they were actually much more different than i had expected them to be.
Only problem i had was there are some words that sound wrong in an English accent. Candy? Bandaid? SWEETS! PLASTER! ;D
