I’ve been on Lamisil for the first week of 3 months now, and the toenail is still infected, as are other toenails now. I told the Dr. that we should take off the infected toenail right from the start, and that I should take the typical Lamisil dosage of 1 pill a day for 6 months, but she screwed around with her holistic approach and now things are worse than ever on the toenail front.

I ran across this website for some stuff called Zetaclear and this cleared my big toenail up in about 3 weeks

I found out more about Lamisil… Way too expensive, too risky, and doesn’t always work. Also has a high rate of recurrence.
My attack on it is going better than expected! I’m not wearing socks or shoes while at home, and am applying tea tree oil twice or three times a day. Then at night right before I sleep I soak my feet in vinegar+water, then bleach+water. Finally, more tea tree oil and vapor rub. I really have no idea which of these (or all of them) is working, but the more mild fungus has gone away on three of my toes. No impact on the really thick nails, but I filed them down a couple days ago, so that might help.
This is such a gross, embarrassing problem. I’ve had it for a while, but living with roommates meant that I just put on socks and tried to forget about it.
Now that circumstances have changed I’m armed with apple cider vinegar and tea tree oil and ready to start getting rid of it. A trip to the doctor soon, to get a prescription, and all of these things combined hopefully will speed things along. :) I suspect that the slow growth of nails will be discouraging, so maybe blogging will keep me optimistic.
This is my first online cry for help, and my question is for Spali. Did the 50/50 mix of ACV/water work for you? My skin also doesn’t enjoy the 100% vinegar and I’m not even convinced yet (from personal experience) that it will have an effect on my toenail fungus. Please let us know. Thanks!
The rant I’d written at first: I’m new to toenail fungus. It’s taken one nail and I can see it spreading to others! It’s so frustrating that appointments I’ve made aren’t for more than a month from now!
It starts at the tips of the nails, where they start to turn dark. I comfort myself by pretending that it’s just because I’ve started cutting my nails so short, but then it spreads, so I cut them shorter, but I’m running out of room! I’m so stressed out about it! I hear your poor stories about having it for years, and I see these horrible pictures on the net. I’m 25, a graduate student and dating and otherwise just don’t want to lose my nails!
I’d appreciate any words of wisdom
Saw the doctor on February 14th. She took a few weird tests “just in case,” then advised to start soaking my foot daily in apple-cider vinegar. I got the kind with “the mother” in it because it’s supposed to work even better (some secret ingredient, evidently).
Have to go back in this Thursday so the doctor can “sand off” the thick parts of the toenail, and then go back in once a month thereafter for the same until it’s taken care of.
In the meantime, I guess the animals and I are just going to have to get used to the awful smell of the vinegar.
I finally went to the chemist and filled the prescription for more ‘magic stuff’ today. The fight against fungus continues…
Oops! I nearly forgot about this again! Now going to put on the ‘magic stuff’ immediately! Heh! :D
I have had a feral fungus in three toenails on my right foot for over a year now. I hate it. I am ashamed to let people see my feet (specifically that foot) because it looks so horrible. YUK!
I have some stuff that you paint on that is supposed to get rid of it. You have to go through a little ritual of filing back the nail and cleansing it before putting on the magic stuff and you have to do this a few times a week. Apparently it works and on the occasions that I have remembered to use it it does seem to hold it back; but then I get lazy and forget and, sure enough, the fungus returns.
I want to remember to use it every 2-3 days as you are supposed to and, in time, be rid of that gruesome fungus for good.
I want to paint my toenails and wear strappy shoes again.
