    Great dates 14 months ago

Are all about chemistry which is either there or not… but some dates are memorable all the same.

For me, travelling has produced some memorable dates.I remember one evening iceskating at Somerset House where a DJ was paying retro music, followed by a meal for two in a restuarant that used to be a bomb shelter during WWII.

What makes a date memorable? And does anyone want to share one they had?

    Perspective 14 months ago

Sometimes I just wrapped up in what I’m doing and lose perspective. I posted this as a reminder that there is whole lot more going on than the office, emails, video conferences and arbitary deadlines.

Happiness - Natural or unnatural? 14 months ago

    F. Scott Fitzgerald (in The Crack-up) had this to say:

“This is what I think now: That the natural state of the sentient adult is a qualified unhappiness.

I think also that in an adult the desire to be finer in grain than you are, ‘a constant striving’ (as those people say who gain their bread by saying it) only adds to this unhapppiness in the end – the end that comes to our youth and hope.

My own happines in the past often aproached such an ecstasy that I could not share it,even with the person dearest to me but had to walk it away in the walk it away in the quiet streets and lanes with only fragments of it to distill into little lines in books – and I think that my happiness, or talent for self delusion, or what you will was an exception. It was not the natural thing, but the unnatural …

...I shall manage to live with this new dispensation, though it has taken some months to be certain of the fact…and so to in my case there is a price to pay.

I do not any longer like the postman, nor the grocer, nor the editor, nor the cousin’shusband, and he in turn will come to dislike me, so that life will never be very pleasant again, and the sign Cave Canem (Beware the dog) is hung permantly just above my door. I will try to be a correct animal though, and if you throw me a bone with enopugh meat on it I may even lick you hand.”

Does he have a point? What do you think?
