volunteer for a feminist, environmental, or educational cause

because I’d be happy doing any of these. I stopped volunteering in the spring when my usual year round, writing mentor program ended, and haven’t picked it up again because it’s in Seattle during the time I’m working at my new job. I miss the kids something terrible, but I knew this was a possibility when I applied for jobs near where I live.

Even though I’m working full-time, I still need and want to volunteer again. It’s pretty much been in my blood since college/high school and I want to get back into it. I’ll start researching this week and maybe make some calls/emails at the beginning of next week.

I was in Planned Parenthood this week, (for one of the myriad reasons a young woman could be in PP – use your imagination), and thought that I should really try and volunteer at one of their locations. It’d be perfect – helping women and men get free BC, abortions if necessary, maintain good sexual health, free condoms, etc. I love PP so much, and I want to ensure they don’t get shut down by outrageous right-wings picketing at locations nearby me everyday. I’ve had friends volunteer for them in the past, and they’ve said it was a great experience. I even considered a job at their front desk, but the website says they’re not hiring by me. Even so, volunteering for them would be excellent, and as soon as I get my job stuff settled, I’m going to call them and see what I need to do, and when I can start.
