Two beautiful golden orfe were added to our pool last week. I have only glimpsed them one at a time until today so I was a bit worried that there might be a problem. This lunchtime I saw them both together near the surface. They are gorgeous :-)
How to spend more time in the garden
How I did it: I live in a city where we have regulations about when we can water our garden and for how long. This impacts the types of plants we have and usually means that we have to be very deliberate about how we go about our gardening. For quite a while I was getting quite disillusioned about the state of our garden. We have gum trees out the front whose bark was peeling because of the drought, and lack of water. We had plants (some good, some weeds) in the backyard that were either withering away and dying or going ballistic in the heat. Our lawn was full of dying patches because watering it wasn't really one of our priorities. Our watering days are Saturday and Tuesday (between 6-9am or 6-9pm) for 3 hrs maximum per week. Remembering to water on a Saturday was pretty tough. Finally, hubbie and I just started being more conscientous about it. We'd put bubs to sleep at 7pm, and then go outside just to two of us, and while he pulled weeds, I'd water and fertilise the plants, the lawn and the trees. The yard is definitely looking much nicer! We also finally pulled up about 2 trailer loads of weeds out of the front yard (the plants that LOVED the heat and dry weather, and would take over and suck the life out of other plants).I now pull into our driveway feeling proud of the place. I look out over our backyard and smile at the greenery that fills my sight.Going outside is now a relaxing part of our days. And the gardening we do, is 'us' time as much as it is 'gardening' time.

Planted my leaving present today, 8 fragrant lily bulbs and a camellia. You used to be able to add photos to entries but that doesn’t seem to work anymore.
Anyway – I’m on my way to achieving this goal :-) and I really enjoyed myself!
Evan and I cut back the plants overhanging the shed and re-discovered my favourite bench.I love to sit there on a Sunday morning, drinking black coffee, chatting with my love and watching for frogs. I’ve missed it this year so it’s lovely to see how easily it reappears :-) Andy Roberts
