The old stereo
is finally gone. I donated it to the Vets (my superintendent took it over). He said they’ll put it in a common room at one of the halls or the hospital. I’m happy it’ll be put to use (30 years old and still going strong).
I was discussing converting my records with my brother. He said a USB Turntable is good but I should first see what can be replaced on CD or downloaded. The sounds quality of the albums may be disappointing (they USED TO sound OK to me)and my time and effort is worth more than the cost of a CD.
I’ve got to focus on going through the albums again and getting rid of those I don’t want at all. At least I know the Vets will take them – since they have the stereo to play them on!

I figured that before I decide which albums to convert and which ones to replace on CD, I’d better actually see what my collection looks like.
What memories! Just to name a few: Elvis and the Beatles (staples), Chicago and the Eagles (classic), soundtrack to the Sound of Music and Fiddler on the Roof (original casts), Bobby Sherman, the Monkees and the Jackson 5 (my youth!), Phil Collins, Barry Manilow, Village People and Jethro Tull and too many others to mention. What a collection! What does this say about my musical taste?!
I’ll get rid of more than 1/2 either because I already have it on CD or I don’t plan on doing anything with it (3 Sha-Na-Na albums!). Next step – see what my brother-in-law has on CD.
And figure out what to do with the albums I don’t want. Maybe eBay?

For a few weeks, I was stressing about getting rid of my old stereo because it had a turntable. If I got rid of it, how could I record my old albums?! Then I thought “Record to what? Cassette?”
I’d been thinking about getting an all-in-one unit which includes a turntable to record albums to CD. But then I thought ”$300 to make CD’s? Forget it…just buy new CD’s”. So I made the decision to donate the stereo and go thru my albums (3 milkcrates – real ones!) to see what CD’s to buy as replacements.
Then I saw this goal. Convert to MP3? Was I that technologically behind the times? Apparently so. I’ll go online to check it out (any recommendations?)
For a small investment, I can keep my musical past.
