I took a weekend trip to San Francisco to visit friends. That was the first thing I did when I got settled in my hotel and unpacked. I took the bus to the Bridge and walked across it.
How to walk across the Golden Gate bridge
How I did it: In 6th grade, my class went to a camp in San Francisco called "Headlands". On the way home from the 1 week trip, we stopped right before the Golden Gate Bridge, and we all walked across. It was pretty breath taking.

Waterfall Nymph I'm the only sour cherry on the fruit stand.
Woke up this morning and the day was gorgeous. Sunny and clear so clearly, today was the day.
We took a cab down (great to avoid the parking nightmare) and did it. Easy!
The traffic noise was less than I had feared it might be. But, my fear of heights was worse than I had thought. That icy tingle all up and down my legs was not real fun. But it diminished as we went on and by the end I was able to step up to the railing without the death grip.
And it was, as anticipated, stunningly beautiful and not so cold that I regretted my glovelessness.
You can do it!
It took about half an hour to go one way, and really wasn’t bad at all, it’s like wlaking down the street. It’s flat and doesn’t hurt your legs or anything. I climbed the CN Tower and the Golden Gate Bridge is a breeze in comparison.
BUT, if you’re on the tired side, take a break before you walk. It takes half an hour both ways and there’s no bus to take you back to the other side….
BTW the hardest part about doing this is getting to San Francisco. It’s totally easy to walk. Take a Golden Gate bus to the bridge though. It’s more expsnive, but has comfy seats and a direct route.
...with a bunch of friends a few years ago… fun fun fun… windy and noisy… but fun none the less…

I even took a picture with the suicide phone. No don’t do it… Aaaaaahh… ;-)

It’s not like it was some difficult feat that required serious training, but it was something I’ve always wanted to do but never had the opportunity. I started once over 10 years ago, but my friends didn’t want to ‘go all the way’. In the past, all my friends that I had traveled to the city with, didn’t want to do anything tourist-y. And this was definitely very tourist-y. It took longer than I had thought it would- 2 hours (round-trip, not one way), but I was taking my sweet time and relishing the experience and taking lots of pictures. It was really windy and loud due to being so close to traffic, but it was definitely still worth it. I thank my friend Sara V. for going with me and taking pictures. Oh, and I definitely recommend the hostel on Fort Mason- excellent accomodations for the price. (picture of me in the middle, photo by Sara V.)
I live so close, in the Bay Area and yet I have never actually explored San Fransisco or walked along the Golden Gate bridge.

I’ve never done this. I’ve lived here since 1976!!!!!
I think the chum may need a stroller. Or, ooo! Maybe we can do this sans chum!
