I was lucky because in high school, my choir was chosen to sing back up for Josh Groban during ‘You Raise Me Up’. It was surreal.
We also got to meet him during his sound check, and I have to say that he’s very easy on the eyes. ;)

Yesterday I auditioned for Pepsi’s Gimme the Mike, Columbus. If I am selected to be on the show, I will have the opportunity to sing in front of thousands of people on TV! My audition went very very well! Here’s hoping!

I’ve had the opportunity to do this a few times in my life (hopefully more will come my way as my career continues):
1. Singing the national anthem at several college football games (2 of which were televised)
2. Singing backup for Barry Manilow
3. Singing backup for Lorrie Morgan
4. Recording children’s CDs that will be released in the US this October (ok, this last one’s a stretch, but I’m hoping we pull a big audience)
For me, the secret is keeping myself open to opportunities CONSTANTLY. I have a network of MANY professional musician friends, and they know I’m reliable, consistently in-tune, on-time, and musically precise—so when they need a singer, I get a call. Of course, in the meantime, I’m keeping the bills paid by being a full-time voice & theater teacher, but performing keeps my batteries charged.
Keep singing, and keep studying!
