I’ve done it again and replaced my good old G4 MDD 2×867mhz powermac with a shining new Mac Pro 2×2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon. It’s like to fall asleep in the 19th century and wake up in the 22nd ;). And I finally able to run the Leopard (not saying about all those awesome games I missed in the last years :P)

I can’t afford this yet in the least but I know it would help me out with other goals, especially the art stuff !! It is definitely something good to start saving for, but hard because I don’t want to use the credit card, and I’m trying to build an emergency fund too.

Trying to think of other options for the meantime, but my current mac is getting pretty long in the tooth. It scares me how slow she is to start up. Yikes, hang in there, hoss.

The Leopard delay has forced my hand  — 1 year ago

    Worth doing!

Now that OS 10.5 has been delayed to Oct/Nov this year so that Apple can focus on the iPhone (grrrr!), I’ve decided I couldn’t wait and took the plunge. I’ve bought a 17” iMac in the interim and will probably look at getting a 24” iMac in 2008.

    Very happy with the purchase.

A brand spanking new Mac  — 1 year ago

I love my Mac, don’t get me wrong…....I have a Powerbook G4. I guess I just want a bigger and better one. This is going to take a while. It took me a while to get this one. My husband is anti Mac…. he is a P.C. man. We remind me of the Mac ads on t.v. Really.

I finally did this! First brand new from the box computer in 19 years (pretty sad for a full time software developer, no?). I’m glad I held out a bit longer since my timing was perfect. I got the 15” MacBook Pro with 2.33Ghz Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM, 120MB HDD and all the rest of the nice little touches that Apple does. There was one minor manufacturing defect when I first got it (it didn’t want to “p” – the “p” key worked but was sticky).

The battery life is good (3 hours+ on average), and I’ve got it loaded up with most of the work/hobby software development tools I needed in no time (Thankyou www.macports.org). I’ve also picked up an extremely solid Brenthaven Fusion MB messenger style bag with almost as much foam protection for my new Mac as Apple shiped it with;)

One last thing: the lighted keyboard and magsafe power adaptor are way cool. You don’t appreciate the lighted keybaord untll your lighting conditions get dim (and I’m touch typing 90% of the time anyhow), and I have yet to have the bolt of panic due to my powercord being ripped out. Still, both great features to have.

Waiting for Leopard  — 1 year ago

    Worth doing!

I currently have a 17” Powerbook that is over three years old. I was planning on getting a new Mac (probably a 24” iMac) in February on the assumption that an announcement would be made at MacWorld that OS X 10.5 and iLife 07 would be shipping with all new Macs. Alas that was not to be as MacWorld was totally hijacked by the announcement of the iPhone (in which I have zero interest).

I know as soon as a buy the new Mac, the OS X and iLife upgrades will be announced. So here’s to holding on a little bit longer, noting I’ve promised my PowerBook to my wife who’s anxious to get her hands on it!

I bought my first mac in 1999 and it had a great impact on my creativity and way of thinking. “Think different” is not just a marketing slogan, really. The greatest thing about macs is attention to details, every little thing has a meaning and purpose and works at it best. So do you.

Do yourself a favor, switch to mac.

$1k in the bank. B-Day purchase, here I come!  — 1 year ago

Yeah, I could go off and pull the old consumer trap of throwing it on one of many credit cards, but I’m trying to go for some financial R-E-S-P-O-N-S-I-B-I-L-I-T-Y (it’s a new word I’m trying to learn the mening of:) I’m getting $400 money from cleaning out an old cash management investment account (use for downpayment on house), so in a few weeks I should be up to the ballpark I need (about $1600 for the white iBook w/ 1GB Ram and 100GB HD).
