Now that Snow Leopard doesn’t work with PPC Macs I really need to update my machine. I still plan to keep my old computer but it will be converted to other tasks. I just need to decide on getting a laptop or an iMac.

Bought a Powerbook 4 1/2 years ago now, and while it does the job, it’s getting slow and the next time it dies, I will not resuscitate. So I need to save enough cash to buy one when it carks it… I don’t want to buy one before I need to… so I need to have everything backed up and ready to go…

I want to get a new mac laptop as soon as possible. The problem is earning enough money to get it and all the applications I need.
I don’t think this is a silly desire considering I want to be a writer, I’m going to school, and the internet is the new form of socialization and communication, and I write for a blog which I need to be connected to.
So what I need to do is:
Find the mac I want
Earn the money
Get it and set it up. Ta da!

I’ve done it again and replaced my good old G4 MDD 2×867mhz powermac with a shining new Mac Pro 2×2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon. It’s like to fall asleep in the 19th century and wake up in the 22nd ;). And I finally able to run the Leopard (not saying about all those awesome games I missed in the last years :P)
Pancho Villa needs to stop messing around on this website and get to work!
I can’t afford this yet in the least but I know it would help me out with other goals, especially the art stuff !! It is definitely something good to start saving for, but hard because I don’t want to use the credit card, and I’m trying to build an emergency fund too.
Trying to think of other options for the meantime, but my current mac is getting pretty long in the tooth. It scares me how slow she is to start up. Yikes, hang in there, hoss.
Now that OS 10.5 has been delayed to Oct/Nov this year so that Apple can focus on the iPhone (grrrr!), I’ve decided I couldn’t wait and took the plunge. I’ve bought a 17” iMac in the interim and will probably look at getting a 24” iMac in 2008.
Very happy with the purchase.
I love my Mac, don’t get me wrong…....I have a Powerbook G4. I guess I just want a bigger and better one. This is going to take a while. It took me a while to get this one. My husband is anti Mac…. he is a P.C. man. We remind me of the Mac ads on t.v. Really.
I finally did this! First brand new from the box computer in 19 years (pretty sad for a full time software developer, no?). I’m glad I held out a bit longer since my timing was perfect. I got the 15” MacBook Pro with 2.33Ghz Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM, 120MB HDD and all the rest of the nice little touches that Apple does. There was one minor manufacturing defect when I first got it (it didn’t want to “p” – the “p” key worked but was sticky).
The battery life is good (3 hours+ on average), and I’ve got it loaded up with most of the work/hobby software development tools I needed in no time (Thankyou www.macports.org). I’ve also picked up an extremely solid Brenthaven Fusion MB messenger style bag with almost as much foam protection for my new Mac as Apple shiped it with;)
One last thing: the lighted keyboard and magsafe power adaptor are way cool. You don’t appreciate the lighted keybaord untll your lighting conditions get dim (and I’m touch typing 90% of the time anyhow), and I have yet to have the bolt of panic due to my powercord being ripped out. Still, both great features to have.
