How I did it: My city offers free four-hour CPR/AED courses to its residents, so I signed up for one with my husband and we went one night after work. I had been certified for CPR at least eight times before, but I had let my training lapse and was behind on the new rules. My husband had never learned CPR (which surprised me) and I feel good knowing he now knows exactly what to do in an emergency. Lessons & tips: 1. See if your city, school, etc. offers free courses, because private training can cost a fortune. 2. Go with a friend or family member because you usually have to share equipment and you will feel more comfortable if you are not partnered with a stranger. 3. Go back every year because the rules change all the time. 4. How I did it: I had to take this class as an educator and a coach of children, but I would hope that anyone in the world would want to take this class! It is so functional, and even if you never have to use it, what a good skill to have. Simply sign up for a (good) course through the internet on the Red Cross website, pay and attend (do not do the online course!!), and pay attention while there.
