brickhorse has all the swirling plates in the air!
Part of working smarter is knowing when to pull back, when to let go, when to let others take on more, and when to say no. I’m working on this. Silence is my partner. When someone asks if anyone can help, silence is my response. I am overwhelmed and can’t take on anything else. When I get some free time and space in my work day, I’ll step forward (but less than before) to take on ANOTHER extra duty, as in one extra duty at a time. Otherwise my health will suffer, and I refuse to get sick over a job.

Even at home

Decluttering is key to less work at home. Eegads! It’s all related.

I have worked hard, long hours all my life. Whether at home or on the clock, there is always work to do and I find myself doing everything because others don’t do anything but leave a bigger mess to fix.
I want to be able to delagate and get through to other’s the importance of doing a job well.

I’ve been using, “Work smarter, not harder” at work as my mantra, and a few others have taken up the chant. In a meeting a few days ago, someone said that we had to learn to work smarter, and then she looked at me and smiled! That was so cool. I can be a solo smarter worker in some ways, but the real smarter work is when our team figures it out and does it together. At least one other person is saying it out loud in public now, so maybe it will catch on in practice. It is very encouraging.

Ha! So this will be smarter – particularly because they’re both high workload and high profile. My work partner and I will work and get stuff done simultaneously for both committees. Now that is working smarter! Phew!

I’ve been trying to work ahead of time for some things, and it is really helping. I HATE putting out fires and being last minute because it’s so stressful. My boss is so last minute. I used to remind her of things, but I’m not going to do that anymore. She needs to step up and take responsibility, which she abhors. She loves to blame others. She tried with me, and I called her on it so she doesn’t anymore. That tells me she’s a bully about blaming. Anyway, I’m doing my best to work it forward.

My boss says, we have to work harder! I think she does, but I’m already working hard and prefer the need to work smarter. One tactic I’ve learned to use is to say no. If I am stretched too thin, nothing will be done well, and I’ll be a mess.
