DonderjaegerRescheduled, done, and cancelled

That musicianship course which had been cancelled was put on again – a semester late – and I took it. Then I signed up for the next course…which was canceled at the last minute. :c(

Oh well, you win some and lose some. I gained enough knowledge in the last course to give me many more questions, which I can explore on my own. In the meantime, I’ve also found a music theory workbook (Elementary Rudiments of Music by Barbara Wharram) which can keep me busy for a while. I also have a certificate for some private music lessons – and may even be teaching music myself, if things go well! :c0

So this will all be preparation for the next step in my musical education. I’m still reasonably young, so another year won’t kill me…I guess…LOL!! 3 years ago

DonderjaegerCourse canceled

The course was canceled due to lack of interest, as was the other course being offered this winter. I hope some more people sign up for the fall – I’d hate to see the whole program torpedoed for lack of students! :c( 4 years ago

DonderjaegerSigned up

Signed up for a “Continuing Studies” course in musicianship @ UNBC. It’s one of five courses required for a “Certificate in Music Fundamentals”, but it has value on its own, since it is performance-focused.

On the other hand, the courses do provide elective credits toward other programs – though only UNBC. Mind you, courses like "Origins of Western Music" and "Music Theory" should be transferable as first-year credits virtually any institution.

That pretty much wiped out my education fund, but I have all next year to save up for the next one/two. One course at a time will probably be all I can manage, anyway…Full-time studies are for kids living at home or starting out in the world! LOL

Anyway, even a university certificate is better than no paper at all, so I’ll seriously consider completing the other four courses:

Origins of Western Music (easy)
Music Theory: The Language of Music (easy)
Music of the 20th and 21st Centuries (easy)
Acoustics and Recording Techniques (slightly more challenging, but I have relevant experience) 4 years ago

Have an appointment this afternoon, and might go up the university after, or tomorrow, since the course I’m interested in starts in January. Not quite last-minute, but getting there…! 4 years ago

Too bad, I just moved away from Nelson, BC, where a complete college diploma is available. Oh well, UNBC has a (very!) few courses available, and I believe they are for credit, so that’ll knock a course or two off the long-term goal.

Completing a diploma is peripheral to becoming a better musician. There is no substitute for learning…but neither is there one for DOING!! :c) 4 years ago
