Fate's Fetus?
last night, my friend and i spontaneously decided to start a band. all three of us jammed on guitars and later brought in a crappy keyboard, but once we choose a song to really practice on (we plan on performing at our halloween party), i’ll be on bass, angela will be keyboard, and gordon will be on guitar. we just started teaching gordon the guitar last night, but we’re confident that he’ll be rocking out in no time! oh, and we’ve called ourselves, “fate’s fetus,” a play on destiny’s child, haha.

I played in bands in college and after college but my research and work took priority. Now, many years later, with kids, I still miss singing in a band. Just love the music and I’d like to do it again.

Playing in a band is a great creative outlet. One of the most worthwhile things I’ve ever done. I want to continue to be in a band as long as I can still play an instrument.
Be sure to be creative. Write your own songs, don’t just learn other people’s songs.
Don’t feel like you have to be super talented or play an instrument perfectly. I learn far more about my skill as an instrumentalist while playing with others than I ever did on my own.

First of all, I have no musical inclination!
One time, I was at a party and the drummer got up to make a pit stop. So I acted like I knew how to play the drums and he gave me the sticks. I beat on those drums and acted like I was a rock star. I made up all kinds of rythms trying not to sound too horrible. It was only for a song, but I rocked out with the band!

FTJoshua should have finished math when he had the chance 10 years ago.
It wasn’t with the band I thought it’d be, but I did it, and holy hell, was it cool. We called ourselves Just This Once, because god knows if we’ll ever play out again, but the other two guys are up for it. So maybe we’ll be Just This Twice next time. So totally worth it. Even if I never get on stage again, for 35 minutes, I was a rock star, and you can’t buy that feeling. Freaking Awesome.

There are unexpected “bonuses” to be had playing in a band. We we engaged to play the New Year Dance at a Farmers club out in the country. The dance was a sucess and then the “entertainment” was announced.
I guess I’m a bit of a prude and did not quite expect there to be full-frontal nudity provided by the female stripper. The guys, and by the looks of it, their wives, seemed to enjoy the show though.

My art group, Slumgothic, runs jamming sessions most Thursdays. It’s been a real eye-opener.

Playing in a band would be great fun without any doubt but I think there’s no sense keeping this on my list since I know I will never have enough energy/patience/time to get good enough to be able to play in a band.
I’ll remove this to the more pathetic list.

I play guitar, used to play the piano, would like to learn the drums, violin, bass, and basically every musical instrument there is. Sitar sounds fascinating. Although I don’t believe in myself, I still want to be in a band. I want to play alternative-types of music. I don’t even care about being famous. I just want to play.

i used to play in a band, but the environment wasn’t contributory to actually writing and playing good music. i just can’t forget the feeling of when we would play shows in front of live audiences, just the awesome feeling that they were into our music and thought we were really good, and also just the feeling that you and other people were actually making music. great feeling, quite addictive.
